NY chicken lover!!!!

What is that gorgeous creature?!

I've had the shots and tests and do take a daily pill. I'm old I've been to the docs and all that stuff. This is nothing new to me.

Allergies/asthma tend to get worse as we age I'm told.

There all all kinds of opinions and ideas and that kind of stuff.

So you see I've been tested and that kind of stuff. I don't think Bronchitis and Pneumonia are caused by allergies are they?

Of course the mask will help with the dust and Lord knows chickens produce a great deal of dust. Don't they?

Nealy forgot. Folks if you're taking an herbal supplement or the like TELL YOUR DOCTOR. These things ARE drugs and can interact with medications you're taking.

Just because it's "Natural" does not mean it's not a drug.

Lord keep us well,

Rancher
Always want to check with your doc especially if your on medication. Ginkgo biloba etc, there's others, can mess with medication. Chaga and reishi, maitake, shiitake mushrooms are not herbal supplements but I guess it wouldn't hurt to check with a doc first. I don't take any herbal supplements, heck
I don't even take vitamins lol. I probably wont see any benefits from chaga tea, unless in the future I never get any cancer, but then who would know why? I have absolutely no health problems right now, and rarely get sick. So if I don't get sick at all this winter I won't know if it is the immune system boosting chaga, or just the way it is...I figure can't hurt. I never ate kale before in my life until I started buying it last yr, I have a bed I've been picking from all yr now, and it's still with the snow and ice producing! Chickens love it too! I didn't ask my doc if kale was OK. I love kale, scrambled eggs and kale, or kale omelets, raw kale on sandwiches, boiled kale with butter, or vinegar, baked kale chips, kale in every soup. My 16yr dd recently said the chicken soup I made was the best, and she doesn't like me or my cooking (hopefully it's the age....) I asked her if she knew I chopped up kale and put in it, she did and was OK with it (couldn't get any of them to eat kale!) she said it had more meat in it than mom makes. I didn't tell her it was a pressure cooked cockerel of our own, not store bought, it would have tasted awful if she knew..lol. I even chopped up some kale fine and put in ramen noodles recently and the littler kids ate it...they love ramen noodles, like it's a treat, gotta make them almost healthy somehow...lol.

Best of health to you Rancher, hope you feel better, get better soon. With one kid with asthma, ear infections, tubes, tonsils out, too many trips to the ER, and five kids all together, I do not like sick (kids that go to school are infectious disease ridden vermin!) I might not get sick but I've been severely knocked down in the past by bad injuries, being knocked down sucks.
I pray you and your wife have better days tomorrow.

Anyone here got Amazon Prime? I was thinking about getting it for my tablet but they take all your information before telling you how much it cost.
We had it for a yr. I didn't know. We have a roku with netflix and hulu plus. When I realized after months we had Amazon prime, wife says I was the one who wanted it so I could catch up on 'Under the Dome'... I was working weird hrs and shifts and missed one episode first season, used to be able to watch it on CBS online, then they didn't let you and put last weeks episodes on Amazon..grrr..Never did catch up or watch the rest, and the rest of the family didn't watch Amazon much so wife canceled it. Look online and see what shows you watch or like to watch, some are exclusive to either Hulu plus or Amazon prime, we kept Hulu for the tv shows and netflix for the movies, kids watch a lot of their cartoons on youtube, roku is very handy for that.

I know its fround upon but broke down in put heat lamps in the coops. I used to have one coop with them all, but I built another much bigger one right before Christmas and I fear the six chickens and the turkey just have to much space in there to keep warm. Same with the original coop with only the five adults and four youngin left there.

It's not cold, tomorrow might be a little bit, but it's going to warm up. I only had nine chickens in a 8x16', 8' to the roof, coop last winter, two were leghorns with floppy combs, one was a not supposed to be cold hardy polish. And I left their pop door open most of the time. Subzero temps with -25 windchill many nights, zero frostbite and the polish and leghorns laid most of the winter along with the rest with no supplemental light.

Kale salad with nuts and dried fruit, sautéed kale (esp. With shrimp), kale in stew, etc.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a really cold night. Our first below freezing here. Chick is by himself in a big shed, no friends to keep him warm. Do you guys think I should bring him in for the night??

Things are not looking good for my kitty :( I had to take him to the vet Saturday because he just wasn't looking good. They gave him fluids and decided there must be some other underlying problem so they put him on antibiotics too. He stayed about the same yesterday but today while I was at work he apparently went downhill, threw up three times, and wasn't even able to get himself to the litter box. My parents didn't take him to the emergency vet because they didn't think there was much that could be done. I'm taking him to the regular vet tomorrow but I'm not really sure there's anything to do at this point. Right now he's still alive but not very responsive. I'm feeling a bit guilty because the vet offered to keep him Saturday but I thought he'd be more comfortable at home. He might have done better there. At this point I'm really not sure if he'll be alive in the morning.

My other two cats seem to be pretty aware of what's going on. My youngest, who was a feral kitten that got trapped in my workshop and then we kept and whom my sick kitty took under his wing, is watching over him. She's sleeping in the kitchen on a bench overlooking where he is sleeping on his heating pad instead of sleeping in the living room as she usually does. My other cat, who is actually the oldest, seems to know I am upset and is following me around the house wherever I go keeping me company.

Yes Rancher Allergies contribute to bronchitis and pneumonia. Bronchitis is an inflammation (itis means inflammation) of the bronchi (bronch) that's why I suggested the allergy medication. With the Bronhi already inflamed from the allergies and remain inflamed for long periods of time. The other thing is are you on a maintenance inhaler and a rescue in haler? Yes you can decrease the affect of the allergen if you use your rescue inhaler before going to the coop. Wearing the mask also helps if you want to use the best kind of mask, buy one from Lowe's, Ace, or Home Depot designed for dust. (Painters use them and are designed for a finer particulate.

If it weren't for my meds I would have to give up my kitty, my dog and the chickens.not something I am willing to do. Sudafed is an inexpensive alternative as an OTC.
And, in case you were wondering I am a Nurse mostly retired now but have been one for 30 years. :)

So sorry to hear he's not doing well. I hope he gets better.
