NY chicken lover!!!!

I am with you all on the seasonal affect disorder. I really feel blue this time of year. The chicken hatching keeps me busy and I ski. However, this year has been better. But, ask me in a couple months when I can't get my feet in the sand because I took on too many jobs this semester and all the schools have different breaks!

How do you check on a bullseye without cracking open the egg.

You cant

...you have to crack the egg ...then you eat It..

Check one or 2 eggs for breakfast ..not fertile ?
Then I would wait a week and then check a couple eggs again ...
Personally I would rather eat it ..than to try to incubate a un fertile egg ..
and waste it

Hey all you Hudson valley residents... I'll be receiving eggs some time this week (they ship out Monday from way up state) and I've only got a few coming. I was wondering if anyone has any large egg layers, preferably a unique egg color. I'm in 10524, will PayPal and hope you're within an hour of me so I could pick up but not a must! I'd like them by this Friday. Thanks all!

Can't spare a egg. Throw them in, see what develops, nothing to loose right?

Yes, I usually just start incubating them & candle them 7-10 days later for growth. This last batch all the eggs from the SFH coop were infertile. :( going to switch roosters & see if that helps.

Sorry, my cockerels are shy. My fertility rate is pretty low right now.

Generally I watch for the dancing. If I see the rooster dancing with the girls then I can figure some eggs will be fertile.

Interestingly enough I got a "Magic School Bus" dvd from the library and they did a thing where they went inside the hen and became part of the egg she laid. I didn't watch the whole thing but will borrow it again soon. I mention it because the kids might like it. My GD's love the Magic School Bus.

I'll be checking Ebay for them soon.

Thanks! I figure I'll take the method of putting some in the incubator to see if they develop.

I found a small prefab coop that's pretty cheap to act as a brooder once the chicks get about 4 weeks old. I use the mama brooder heating of method so they'll stay warm and the chickens can start getting used to the chicks. If it gets really cold I have a ceramic heat lamp that doesn't put off light that I could use too.

Hope you guys have a good Monday!

@rancher hicks my kids have watched it on YouTube and Netflix, original series.
Netflix is supposed to be making a 'reboot' called "The Magic School Bus 360° " to be out sometime this yr.
Snuggling with my little boy watching 'Little Einstein's' right now, well he is watching anyway.
