NY chicken lover!!!!

I knew I could find a voice of reason here :laugh

I did the Valentine's hatch along last year. This year, I may fill the bator if I get all the eggs I want lol

I've been stalling because I don't want chicks in the house and there is no space in the garage, since we actually put in a full winter's worth of firewood. Guess since my dad put electric in the horse barn finally, I could use a heat lamp (with all safety precautions) with an Eglu. Or I got a first time broody, that I won't give eggs to.

Go for it! Fire up the bator!  I

Wellllll...I have never hatched before, but I'm saving Mille Fleur eggs and a friend has loaned me a 'bator. This will be an experiment of sorts...:fl

I've been eyeing the Easter Hatch-a-long as well.

I've never been a part of one of these events. Looks like fun.

I'm going to participate in the Hatch Along. My test hatch should be complete on the 26th. My eggs will be shipped to me February 29th. I'll set them on the 4th probably.

I'm in the same boat. Chicks in the house now might mean chicks in the house till May. I'm trying to figure out how I can keep them warm enough out in the chicken house. Will figure something out.

With some of the milder weather this winter, I was able to get a couple of my runs covered. The recent snow then rain then snow again has certainly put them thru a test. But also created in inverted forest of mini icicles:

Wow those are cool photos! I've had heavy, wet snow test my aviary netting. Last year it even bent some of the metal supports where I have it high enough for my brother's truck & trailer to back into the chicken yard for when I get mulch round bales. The other morning, a dead branch fell on it that was at least 1" diameter & the netting survived!

Hmmm, should I Easter Hatch-a-long or not... Would have to ship in some of the eggs I want. Set date is March 5.
I've joined Easter Hatch-a-long in 2013 & 2014 - though I never try to keep up with all the posts! Hoping to do it again this year. Some of the contests are fun, though.
Well, our Eastern Pines didn't fare well through the ice storm. Lots of limbs down - no damage to property thankfully. Some of the limbs were very near misses tho'. ...
Glad you all survived the storm - the wind was very strong!

But now that he knows he can see so much higher ...he will come up on my lap by himself ...and be petted

@Gramma Chick Years ago, Mom was baking rolls in the oven & accidentally we left the house with the oven still on, low temp I think. We came back hours later & we were so thankful it didn't catch on fire! Mom decoupaged it & we still have that rock-hard roll as a reminder. :)

I have two chicks from early December & since their broody mother Matilda left them at 3 weeks, I've been taking care of them - outside. Over the frigid weekend, I put them in the brooder with the Jan chicks, but the broody hen Elly May didn't like that! Yesterday, I took them out & put them back in their dog house coop. "Uno" is the big brother, very outgoing - suspected he was a roo soon after he hatched b/c of how adventuresome he was! "Dos" his sister, has always been shy & little. Yesterday, I held her close while taking her back to her coop & she was making cute little trills & chirps.

I just started buying/hatching so, I had various chicks in the house last year from November until we got them out in Spring. I just built them brooder homes inside my muck room. Easy to clean and socialize them. So, this year I said no chicks in the house this winter...and then I bid on this great auction to get some white pavlovskaya and I now have a chirping office in the new house and an incubator due to hatch in a couple weeks and a shipment due in mid March. I hadn't realized how much I truly missed their chattiness until I got this little crew.

I guess the little guys in the house don't bother me that much because they have their own area. They are so much easier to tend to, play with and change their waterer every 5 minutes when they poop in it..lol However, they really really bother my daughter.
