NY chicken lover!!!!

My chicks keep dying...it's so sad. I think maybe I'll just hatch my own from now on. I had 4 pass away last night and 2 more this morning. Their little bodies must not have been able to recover from the stress.

I'm hoping the rest pull through but one doesn't look so good. I'll be calling ideal on Monday.

Ugh. I'm so sorry. Hugs to u & ur family.

If I lived closer I would totally volunteer for a shift!

so sorry....the last mail order I got 15 out of 16 were doa. The survivor - Henrietta is just about blind, so I think the freezing fried her retinas....now I won't even contemplate chicks by mail...

I agree. I think getting chicks from you guys at chickenstock or hatching my own is what I'm doing. I had successful mail chicks with Meyer hatchery, but it was in the spring. Either way I don't want to chance it.

I have 6 left out of 25. Three that look like chipmunks, a Sicilian buttercup, mystery chick and I think a barred holland.

Questions.

Are these Ideal chicks?

Did you put a thermometer in the brooder at chick height? Watch the temp to make sure it's not to high or too low? DO NOT trust the thermostat on your furnace.

Did you give them a drink of sugar water to start?

Did you put them on paper towels, so you can be sure they're eating and drinking? I do this for a few days. I also prefer the large shavings.

What type of feed do you have them on? Did you crush the crumbles up small so they can eat them. ( I do this as Dumors are a bit large for newborns)

Red light? and no room light so they can sleep and rest? Quiet place? A room with lots of traffic can have drafts you can't feel but they can.

I did have two chicks that looked down. I put them in a small box with food and water and closed it over so they were not pestered by the more energetic chicks. After a couple of days they came around and went back in with the others.

@rancher hicks yes these are ideal chicks. I used the electrolytes you can get at tractor supply in their water. I just changed them to pine shavings, but yes I did have paper towels. I have been using Dumor and have seen them eating but I'll mash some up for them. They have the red heat lamp in my basement which is nice and quiet. I have a thermometer and the temp was a little high initially but I have since adjusted it.

Right now none look super tired like the others before they passed.

I am sorry akaruby. I am going through hell with my last shipment too...there aren't enough hours in the day.
