NY chicken lover!!!!

Well I went to pick up a pair of Red- Golden Pheasants. They were great, put them in the pen with my very calm Peafowl, watched them all day to see if there would be any issues. Nothing. Went to bed, woke up this morning and the female is gone. I thought she was big enough not to fit through the chain-link fence but apparently I was wrong. This is awful. Sad day here. He is now in a different enclosure with chicken wire over the fencing. Alone.

annie, you have been having the worst luck! I hope they turn up! Ginny

Found her head this afternoon. We have the most predators that I have ever seen. All birds are locked insode the coops and will be from now on. Apparently Pheasants do not stay inside like the chickens do. When I went to bed I checked on them and they were inside, she must have gone out in the night. Duh! The only way something could reach her is if she was leaning on the outside of the stinking fence. She was totally protected on 3 sides and the top.

All she had to do is move over about 4 inches.

So I looked in the chicken coop today and there were two eggs. The Ameraucanas are finally laying. The only trouble is that the color is a nasty green. My husband thought it was a bad egg becuase the swans he used to care for would have eggs turn that color when they went bad. Hope the color gets better.

Maybe the other bird will lay a bright blue egg.

Hope everyone is doing well in this rain. Seems like we haven't had much time to dry out before another rainstorm hits. I was surprised to see my hens in the covered outside run because it is still a little wet out there. They must have been tired of being "cooped up".

I had to re-read this. The first time I missed the word "head" and got excited for you but then the rest of it didn't make sense. So I read it again and I'm very sorry you had to find her this way. :-(
