NY chicken lover!!!!

@Chicken girl 15 that your ad on Craig's List looking for a trampoline? Lol. I didn't get far on building my greenhouse. Took it apart, stood it up, glad it's a 14'er, must be 7' high. I have a old screen door that will fit perfect. Was going to make it 20' long with chainlink fence poles, wife talked me into 10' so I got pvc, plastic, and lumber. 10'x14' will be very useful.
I'm looking for another smaller one maybe 10' for a hoop coop chicken tractor, hopefully to fill with giant capons this summer. :)

I am looking forward to seeing this build!

Some people swear by seven dust for chicken creapy crawlies. I prefer prevention, good deep liter dust baths, try to keep a pile of wood ashes for them also. Never have 'bugs' on them.
Sevin dust is carcinogenic. I don't recommend using it. DE is good for mites. Vaseline on the legs and roosts. I DE everything when I clean the coop. In all the dark and damp places. I dust the roosts and put some in the nest boxes as well. You can buy large bags at some of the rural farm/feed stores. J&J feeds in Central square and Tully carry 40# bags. I store them in a large plastic bag where they won't get wet.

I also dump some in the scratch feed can to keep the moths away. Won't keep the chickens from eating it. I occasionally dump some in their feed pellets too. Just cuz.

Mites like dark and damp places. That's why it's good to have windows that bring in the sun light.

Well the hatch is almost done.

More than eleven I think. I had a Marans I helped out a bit but it died.

Marans are such a pain to hatch out. I don't know why. They just don't break out of the shell good.

Dels and C. Rocks seem easy. EE's too.

Got one lavender and one cross with Big Delores. She's a Lt. Sussex. Her chicks has lavender on it's back. I'll post pics when I can.

I've been offering eggs to folks to buy since I've agreed to sell the entire lavender and Blue EE hens and the roo.

I will be selling the Marans too and the Marsh Daisies. If I can find folks willing to pay a fair price.

Congrats! Is Delores a Del? Would you have any Lavs Wednesday? Thanks-

I just bought the farm house coop and extension pen from tracker supply. I was wondering what would I need to do to the coop for the winter months? I new to owning chickens and even though winter is just ending I'm about to build the coop and would love advise.

Congrats how many chickens do you have ?

This one ? for 6 chickens ?
I hope you will be letting them out pretty small...it is ...
Do you have a shed you can put its back to ? for a wind block ?
Also the screening could be stapled up in heavy duty plastic ...that way snow wont drift in

Well I had the gallbladder out & it sucks ..
I cant move anything more than 10 pounds ...do you know how hard that is ?
I keep hurting myself ...I feel good... I do ...More... then ..I hurt again ....AGGHHHH....

Surgery was THURS ..stayed the night...came home friday afternoon ..
The Chickens missed me ..no one fed them real food just snacks ( I planned on coming home Thurs ..)
They all met us at the car ...

...When I brought out the food chickens were flying at me ..

Counted chickens on putting them to Bed 17
...brain said didnt I have 18 ? still Dazed from Anesthesia
...
Next morning a friend came over to get eggs ...so I called the chickens for her to see them ..
noticed who was missing . after she left I looked around the yard for her ...
No sign ...I looked in the coop...then ...under the hen house ...I saw her ..
WARNING GRAPHIC
she had no flesh at all on her neck ..I could see a pecked free ? neck bone.
She must have been attacked by something and been bleeding to have the chickens do that to her .
My son & my Husband said they didnt hear anything happen while I was gone ..
So I have no idea what happened ..
I wonder if this rash of chicken deaths here is related to all those birds landing in my yard ?

Little Ninja - when we got home from the hospital..
walked right up the steps in front of me and right in the house with us ..He was so sweet & hungry .
.I have 1 chick so I feed him separate with his Momma ..While I was gone she decided she didnt want to be his Mama any more ..
So I fed him first ...
I am so thankful for him ...He has become my best buddy..follows me around the yard , lets me carry him everywhere..
Such a Sweety We both were falling asleep in the hammock on sunday
at night he doent want to roost in the coop Coz MAMA doesnt protect him anymore ..hes walking back and forth looking up at me ..how can I roost on her ?

this eve I put a separate roost up for him ...he figured it out then ..UP he flew to my shoulder .
So I took him over to the roost and stood with / over him ...till everyone settled ...( I am usually inside while they settle anyway ..& he was keeping me warm too ..LOL
if we let him he would probably come inside too.
Today was miserable out so I didnt spend much time with him ..I hope tomorrow is better ...
