NY chicken lover!!!!

These chicks are just random mixed breed chicks I gave a broody sebright/silkie cross to hatch. We won't have meaties until later in April...

I would say use it if you have to but if it were me I would only use it until I got to the store to get the regular starter. Usually the lower the protien the cheaper the feed. Save the other stuff for your meaties when they come. The higher protien won't be a problem for a week or so. At east I never had a problem, and I have raised some silkies this way.

The confusion starts in 2 weeks. 1 brooder with my chicks from my flock then a second one with 100 meaties. Do I start the meaties on regular chick starter or something else?

Hmmm. If my meaties and my flock babies are only a day or so apart could I just brood them all together? I have a big enough space and enough feeder stations and several heat sources?

Hello fellow New Yorkers!  It has been forever since I was on this thread.  I hope everyone is well.  I birds have lice (again after 4 years) and I need to treat them.  I used ivermectin last time.  What do I buy and how much per bird?

Happy Easter!

I use a spray on the roosts and shelves, de on the nest boxes, and wood ash in their dust bath. That said, I might have to try some other remedy if I see them come back.

They usually have a different starter and grower for meaties that is higher protien for optimal growth. I would brood them separate as you have a lot of meaties and they grow much faster then regular chicks. I have heard lots of stories of how the meaties crushed the regular chicks.

Some people swear by seven dust for chicken creapy crawlies. I prefer prevention, good deep liter dust baths, try to keep a pile of wood ashes for them also. Never have 'bugs' on them.

Hi!! I would love to meet some local chicken crazy people and swap ideas (maybe chickens in the future?). Live in Le Roy, NY about 25 miles from rochester.
Hi @rcentner you are very close to me! I live in the York area. I just put a bunch of eggs in our incubator today! We've had chickens for about 6 years and currently have a small flock of 5 hens and two roosters. When did you get started and how big is your flock?
I am considering attending the mini chickestock in CNY in May - have you heard about it? I do wish it was closer, so it's great to meet chicken people who are closer.

@Chicken girl 15 that your ad on Craig's List looking for a trampoline? Lol. I didn't get far on building my greenhouse. Took it apart, stood it up, glad it's a 14'er, must be 7' high. I have a old screen door that will fit perfect. Was going to make it 20' long with chainlink fence poles, wife talked me into 10' so I got pvc, plastic, and lumber. 10'x14' will be very useful.
I'm looking for another smaller one maybe 10' for a hoop coop chicken tractor, hopefully to fill with giant capons this summer. :)
