NY chicken lover!!!!

We tried, the bad behavior started last October. I gave them 6 months to shape up.

At this point, for the chickens to be out free ranging, I have to lock up the kids. So the chickens stay in the run while the kids free range instead.
Oh no, snatch them up and make soup. No longer a game. Currently all my "kids" furry ×2 feathered ×21 and 2 leged×5 free range at once. I thought we were going to have dog stew one day though. He mean off and come home frost bit. Other than that they all get along.

The dog has to be on his run when the chickens are out, but he's perfectly well behaved with every other animal he's encountered.

Though he once killed a wild turkey...

My dog tried eating a chicken but the chickens ganged up and showed him what's what. He does have to be on a lead though or he's off and gone. My other dog is a goof ball though. He naps in the coop with chickens sleeping on him or giving him the once over for bugs. He thinks chicken feed taste good but won't touch the eggs unless I bring them in and cook them. He's odd.

I don't know if the dog really wanted to play with the chickens, or kill them. He stays in the yard, so he has that going for him. But he can't be trusted around anything with feathers. He's a big dog, so a few chickens attacking wouldn't bother him in the least. He will eat cooked eggs, but not raw. He's never shown any interest in chicken food....are you sure your dog isn't really just a big funny looking chicken?

There is a homestead in Richfield Springs that is offering to fill incubators in exchange for 6 chicks back from each hatch. They live off grid and have no broody right now. They will do this as often as you like throughout the summer. Let me know if your interested, I still have no Bator or I world help.

You shouldnt need to add O Shells if you are feeding them layer ...after they start laying ..You can supplement their calcium by saving the shells & feeding them crushed back to them ..
At that age it shouldnt matter..they should all get along..Cockerals - baby boys ..will probably be bigger may be more pecky than hens ..may not be able to tell them for months

Yea, if "Cutlet" gets mean, we've all agreed that he'll be dinner. And that goes for any of the girls as well. My Ma won't be thrilled but that's how things go.

Girls rarely get mean ..except to each other sometimes ..to the one at the bottom of the pecking order
Our other rooster was an extra sent along with an order, so his name is "Extra Crispy".
I think there are too many good roosters out there to keep the aggressive ones.
True ..some also feel aggressive roosters shouldnt be mated either ...they pass it on to the flock...
welcome to the 5 kid committee. Every time one of your Roos gets snarly grab him up and snuggle him until he calms down.
Works for some ...not all can be trained...some will stay mean no matter what you do ...
If you have one get rid of it ...or eat it ...almost everyone I know has a bad rooster story as a kid ...BAD PR for chickens

I might consider this once my incubator is empty again. We're only 20-30 mins from Richfield Springs.
