NY chicken lover!!!!

I thought the fluffy yellow chick in that bin was so cute last year, I took HIM home too (without realizing it was a him). Sadly 'Nugget' turned aggressive last fall at about 7 months old, he started by attacking the kids smallest to largest. Up until then he was a very nice rooster, we handled him frequently, he was the favorite. He attacked me when I went into the run to feed them a few weeks ago. He is headed to a good home, in a friends stew pot, next week.
Unfortunately the friendliest roos often "turn mean." I've found with all my roosters that the friendliness sometimes means they think they are dominant over you. Luckily I've been able to rehome/process/or sell my extra roosters. At this point I need to give away a Barnevelder cockerel. He's matured to the point where he makes the lead rooster angry. I had him listed for sale, but he'll need a home sooner. I might switch out my Brabanter rooster too.

It took me quite a while to find someone who wanted the roosters, there is a local family that processes their own chickens, but I only had a vague idea of where they lived. I have a friend who hatched too many roosters last year, so we got together and found a family in need that is more than happy to process their own chickens.

I can't eat something I've raised, I'm not at that point yet.

I'm sorry you have to give up your Barnevelder, its too bad they can't all just get along.

So my husband has a very promising interview for an attorney position in Troy NY next Friday. Do any of you live close in that area around Albany? I'm not sure if we would rent or buy a house because we would have to sell our home. But I'd hope I could find someone to care for my chickens if I do move somewhere where they aren't allowed briefly until we find a home. I would of course pay for their care. Exciting yet nerve wracking!
I live in Stillwater about a 25min commute to Troy. We rent and have about 2 acres of land here. I love it. Look in the surrounding areas you may be able to find something in a country setting that will allow your chickens.

Lavender and Blue EE's are gray. Got some one coming Monday for eggs to hatch. We shall see since many folks are no shows.

Like I have time to wait on them.

My Delaware roosters have never been mean, though I don't pester them. I got into the run and never had one charge me. Some breeds do not make good pets. Never have a C. Rock come at me either. Generally though I'm the only one who tends to the chciekns. They don't like starnsgers.

BR's RIR's can be mean. Had a BR who ogt me good a couple of times. had a B. Marans who was mean. I sold him but never heard from the folks whot bought him. They wanted him so I said hey it's your funeral.

Del coop is laying great these cays. They are in a run and don't mind confinement. Some breeds do.

There's cheaping coming from the incu, but two days to go. Hope things trun ot better this time even if I do't enintd to keep them.

TTFN,

Oh that's great to hear. I was worried about finding somewhere to allow chickens if we did have to rent

Yea, if "Cutlet" gets mean, we've all agreed that he'll be dinner.  And that goes for any of the girls as well.  My Ma won't be thrilled but that's how things go.

Our other rooster was an extra sent along with an order, so his name is "Extra Crispy".
I think there are too many good roosters out there to keep the aggressive ones.

Oh gosh...I had to go get my list....

Roosters:
Red Sex Link
Rhode Island Red

(But these have begun attacking my kids, I have 5 of those)

We tried, the bad behavior started last October. I gave them 6 months to shape up.

At this point, for the chickens to be out free ranging, I have to lock up the kids. So the chickens stay in the run while the kids free range instead.
