NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi guys! Happy Easter!

Quick question. Hubby was sent to pick up starter feed and came home with Meat Maker. My chicks are due to hatch Wed. Apparently, our feed guy told hubby that he had either medicated starter (which I didn't want) or meat maker, and the meat maker was pretty much the same.

Hubby comes home and is like, "Actually it's better because it has more protein!"

Gaaaaah! These are not even meat chickens due to hatch. I haven't ordered those yet.

Is it true that it won't make a difference? Or should I go and get started feed?

Girls rarely get mean ..except to each other sometimes ..to the one at the bottom of the pecking order
True ..some also feel aggressive roosters shouldnt be mated either ...they pass it on to the flock...
Works for some ...not all can be trained...some will stay mean no matter what you do ...
If you have one get rid of it ...or eat it ...almost everyone I know has a bad rooster story as a kid ...BAD PR for chickens
grumpy roos make good soup not good pets. Lol. So far ny 3 are nice, even to each other .

Is it starter for meat birds? What is the protien level? What breed are you hatching. If it's a starter around 20% to 24% I would say it's ok to use. I start all my chicks on the higher protien feed now. If it's for a layer breed like leghorns or legbars I would only do it for 4 to 6 weeks max and then drop down the protien. If it's a dual purpose breed that is late to mature like brahmas or bielefelders I would go longer on the higher protien. I have been very pleased with how my chicks have grown when I do it this way. If you have chicks in an free range area or with lots of access to bugs and weeds, I probably would not bother with higher protien. Most of my chicks are in the basement brooder or if it's nice enough to go out when a bit older I don't end up moving them around much, so I stick with the higher protien feeds.

Hello fellow New Yorkers! It has been forever since I was on this thread. I hope everyone is well. I birds have lice (again after 4 years) and I need to treat them. I used ivermectin last time. What do I buy and how much per bird?

Happy Easter!
