1 week & 2 weeks old, all chicks are black. SH culls, AC culls, Merleraults, and Spitz crosses. Asking $8 ea. But that's very negotiable if u are a BYC member, esp on this fantastic NY thread. I'm in the Watkins Glen/Ithaca area. :D

This is so tempting- What are your Spitz' crossed with? How many chicks do you have there?

How would you describe the personalities of the Merlerauts...I've been looking into those but not so sure about how they do in a confined run with a good few hours of free ranging

DH had his interview in Troy Friday and I think it went well! I'm not sure how the move there would go, especially since I have to sell the house and rent for awhile. There's a lot of farm land around there so I'm hoping to find a house with land to rent, one that allows chickens. Wasn't there someone on here that rents and has chickens?

Hi all- I have had two wind eggs in a week from one of my one-year-old hens. They have all been laying well over the last mony. I've never gotten a wind egg from any of them before!
Anything I should be doing differently? Calcium, protein, etc?

The Merleraults are nice birds, pleasant and easy to work with. My merl rooster is confident & attentive to his hens. He's never given me any trouble tho he doesn't get along with my blue spitz roo. He's in with a silver spitz roo right now and they get along fine. My merl hen is a little shy. She was at least a month and a half old when I got her so maybe more handling in those early weeks would have helped. Her personality reminds me of a couple wyandottes that I had a few years ago and hadn't handled much as chicks. My merls have lots of room right now, but I think they'd be just fine with confinement. I've read that Spitz are supposed to have a hard time w confinement, but I haven't found that to be the case at all with them. My cemanis get pretty miffed when they are confined. All my birds prefer more space to less tho. I'm guessing that's the case w all chickens.

Also known as a cock egg ...it weirded people out in the past
New laying chickens lay weird stuff till the egg laying machine gets completely formed or operational
Teeny tiny eggs , eggs with just a yolk , eggs with no yolk , eggs without shell
a egg inside of a egg

it should work itself out ...
