I am sorry for your loss. I hope you find the perp.

So I sold the C. Rocks but have two hens I hatched out. I miss them but do you think I can find the number of the guy who bought them so I can get some eggs to hatch? Nope.

I know come winter I'll be glad they're gone. Still they're a nice breed.

Good morning.

I'm expecting my EE dozen to hatch soon. Locked down and waiting.

I had a cockerel die yesterday. I'm pretty sure he got beat up by lead roo and/or the ladies for his untoward advances. He separated himself; I took him to the water and food but let him rest day before yesterday. Yesterday I took him to the water. He drank and then just laid down. His poops looked normal. No visible injuries. An hour or so after that first drink he was dead. I not sure what happened. I didn't do an autopsy or anything. Or interrogate B.B. King.

I'm collecting eggs to set in the incubator on Wednesday or Thursday.

Garden is growing. Slowly but surely. Seed germination and sprout development has been a little delayed with the cold then dry weather. I'm trying to give it a little water each day now that it's warm enough. The first tomato plants I started are doing well. Hopefully those 8 stay healthy. I realized too late that the starting medium I used was not ideal. Garden soil. I have to adjust the way I start seeds next year.

Finally cleaning the barn to build a second/fourth coop (4th that I've built, but second in the barn). The squirrels took over the upstairs so I'm trying to clean that up. I just realized the path they're taking to get into the chicken coop probably includes the chimney... must cover chimney hole.

I think the real lesson I learned here is something I had read on here, chicken wire fence is for keeping chickens in not predators out.the sections of fence where it was on the post snapped the wire, and where stapled to the coop snapped the wire while the staple held fast...

I like the welded wire fencing. Tough stuff.
