NY chicken lover!!!!

:caf Greetings one & all,

I've had some "Life" happening here in balmy Binghamton, so I have been M.I.A. from this and other internet contacts for too long. I'm over a hundred pages behind on this list alone!

:sick [Long story short, I'm a disabled veteran with Parkinson's. I have an old, dear friend who is my housemate and helper; she was hospitalized recently and has the beginning stages of congestive heart failure. It runs in her family. Anyhow, dealing with the fallout and life changes that go with that diagnosis has kind of knocked both of us off the rails for the last couple of months.] ***If you can spare a prayer or a good thought for us as you go about your day, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

:frow Please forgive me if I ask a redundant question or such as I am just jumping back in where we are now and may read the back issues (or not).

I'm still hoping like anything to make it to Chickenstock - goodness knows, I need a mental health break. :cd

I'm always happy to meet other chick-a-holics, so if you are in/around Binghamton, please drop me a note and we can get coffee or something.

I hope all of you are enjoying the recent warming weather... I gotta go shovel out my coop and put in new bedding now, LOL.;)

See you later,
Trish, "the Catmom"
:oops:9

Prayers & hugs to you and your dear friend! Hope we will see you at chickenstock.

Well Got the coop cleaned out today ...If the weather holds Yard work tomorrow
What a Beautiful day it was

My coops are clean, the rabbits are clean so I spent a couple of hours putting up electric fencing for the rabbits. They seem to like racing out of the shed, doing wheelies and racing back in!

The fence works - Bonnie Beagle tried it......

Even though I know the quarantine is best, I really look forward to integrating these boys into my flock. I know some people have regretted rushing things, so I'm trying to remember that 3 weeks is probably best. Right?

30 days is suggested but remember, I tossed Mojo and Girlie in immediately and all was good. 7-10 days should cover it an if Horsekeeper still has no illness on her farm you should be ok..

Please take my advice with caution, I'm known to take the gamble.

Ok now everyone please begin your lectures now. I know yall disagree.

I'm with you, family friends and close acquaintances, I wouldn't and don't bother with a quarantine, anywhere or anyhow else I would quarantine at somebody else's house far from my flock if I could :-D

I remember this, and trusting this group is part of the reason I'm hesitant to wait 3 weeks or 30 days. The weather will turn cold again and my spring fever will subside. The biggest problem with the quarantine setup is they don't have a run, and the nice weather has me sad for them.
They spy out the window at their future flockmates and yard goodies.

Thanks Beer can. I'll give them a few days to settle and get used to me being their meal ticket. If I'm going to become alarmed by a health issue in my flock or the new guys I should know soon and decide if I need to keep extending the quarantine.

I appreciate your reassurances.

Well, you saw my flock

Nobody is showing any signs of illness. A few years ago I introduced healthy looking new birds after a month of quarantine and the whole rest of the flock got sick. I treated and everything turned out okay. Sometimes you just can't tell. Because I have a large wild bird population that likes to clean up the morning scratch residue they get exposed to everything. I breed for a resistant flock as opposed to bio security. I sell a lot of poultry locally and no one has come back to me with a problem (and I ask them to if there is an issue). You might try putting one of your chickens in with them to see if it gets sick. Kind of like a reverse quarantine. I wouldn't knowingly sell a sick bird, but there is never a 100% guarantee. Just do what feels safe to you.
