NY chicken lover!!!!

Was that Village auction? I had just heard about it on Sat, you would think they would send out flyers or do some advertizing...

Did they charge a buyers premium this year? I know they did that last year, I just feel its double dipping on their part to get fees from me coming and going!

That is super cheap on the mini horse!

Does anyone want any Ameraucana chicks from John Blehm (chickhatchery.com is his website) I'm ordering LF Blacks and Lavs before year end, but there is a limit of 10 of each and I need to have at least 5 more on my order! I'm ordering in the next month or so for shipment next spring, they need to be prepaid at the time of order.

He has bantams in Buff, Lav and Silver and LF in Buff, Silver and Wheaton, as well as Chantecler too.

Shoot me an email if you are insterested in going in on an order with me to [email protected], I always forget to check PM's!

I also have a pair of young Ameraucanas available, Black Roo and Blue Pullet, $25 for the pair, they look really nice! I already have a back up Roo selected and I am not going to do blues anymore...

Yes, they did charge a buyers premium. Did not know about it until I cashed out.

Either way, I picked up some good equipment real cheap (buckets, feeders, etc.). My son bought a really nice used bird cage (must have been $100 new) for $16. He was tickled pink.

Was it well attended? They *used* to charge it but waive it if you paid cash/check. They also don't allow you to subtract what you sell from what you buy (Silly IMO, since I would always spend what I made!)

I dunno if they charged it at the one they do for Pine creek in the spring or not? I know lots of people were not happy about it!

Prices at Bath for equipment were high, almost retail on some stuff!

I was wondering how everyone in NY was doing with eggs. I'm down to about 3 a day from 35 adult hens....seems like moltinng is taking longer than usual.

On an up note, I put 27 silkie eggs in my hatcher for wednesday....I'm so excited. Mostly white, then bbs, then 5 or 6 split black/lavendar, 4 buffs, one calico, 1 partridge and 1 porcelain.
I heard 2 or 3 peepinng as I moved them to the hatcher....so excited!

I am drowning in eggs, but I have pullets coming into lay now. I got 23 eggs today! I'm going to put up a self serve cart on the next nice day to sell some of the extras. Only one or two of my birds look like they are molting, and it could be my imagination. My best layers are also my oldest at 1.5+ years and they are still laying.

Now there are just 7 eggs in the nest and a cracked one on the floor in front of the nest. Is it really possible for a hen to know which one isn't fertile? Seems she was very deliberate in which one "fell out" of the nest box.

I did discover that I needed to use something a little more obvious than pencil to mark them however. After all the footprints and other dirt on them, I couldn't find the pencil X's (and they were huge marks) Now they are marked in Orange. I hope I can see that through all the mud marks on them. (Mud added by my broody, they were clean when I got them)

If it doesn't stop raining soon I will have to borrow Ray's kayak to get to the coop. Or learn to fly.

I am so JEALOUS! Out of all our birds (35-40?) I got 5 eggs. Geesh! My egg customers are lost-they do not want "store" eggs. They love the beautiful colors and wonderful yolks. Sorry, I won't sell the few we get, we need them. Hoping soon they will be back on the laying wagon. I won't begin to add light until I start finding more eggs=they are finishing molting. I really believe they need those new, warmer feathers in our cold climate. I don't heat. They sure are looked ragged now though. Poor girls.

ETA: Cass - thought today was supposed to be rainy, I am so glad it isn't! My runs are getting stinky again. If the leaves start to fall I can at least put those in the runs so they have dry stuff to walk on.

Yah, I have to use sharpie. With all the turning and burrowing, they will wear the pencil marks off! Of course, by then you can tell which are which by how shiny they are.

omg....when I opened the coop to let them out today in the mad dash to get out one of the D'uccles slipped and took out a rooster on her way to the ground. It was funny as all get out, cuz she doesn't come much higher than his thigh. He got up and looked around like "I meant to do that"
