Day 3

(They didn't want there picture taken!)

Rancher if your still looking for an aruacana rooster someone at my girlfriends feed store she works out is giving one away. She claims he is Araucana but he may be ameraucana. She was one of those people who thinks they know everything but really don't know much. We got into a big argument over whether Mille Fleur is a breed or color. She says uts a breed, apparently if two chickens are the same color they're the same breed and body shape has nothing to do with it. If you are interested the rooster though I can probably get him for you. Free to any home, he's running free outside now

So I've got one chick that hatched and while I expected more to come none has. So I have the chick by itself. All TSC has is straight run Silkies!!!!
My girlfriends feed store has all sorts of pullets 3.29 each. Breezy Hill Feed and Supply, they have a ton of Rhode Island reds, comets, black sex links, and a few others. They are a few weeks old however but it's a great deal for them. Minimum purchase is six

I just sold six ducklings to a great home. Vegetarian owners who were eager to learn about how to properly take care of them. Can't beat that, those ducks are gonna have a happy life.

Does anyone have a good article on why it's better to eat fresh eggs over store bout? Or a good article on why it's good to raise chickens period. Trying to convince someone why raising chickens is a good idea? Someone I know says it's wrong to eat there eggs and they could never eat eggs from chickens they raised (or anyone who raises backyard chickens)
Just tell that person that the eggs that are sold in stores are from chickens who are kept in cages and forced to mass produced plus the fresh eggs aren't full of additives or anything.

Good morning. @rancher hicks and @baunlee and @Metella I have 15 Marans eggs going into lockdown Monday. 10 of them look great. I will probably only keep 1 chick, if any. My flock goals keep changing and this hatch will determine my direction. I plan to keep them in their own brooder for a few days but then they'll join the larger group of hatchers. I want to maintain biosecurity for y'all who keep closed flocks. I'm not listing them or any of these on craigslist and will bring all extras to chickenstock.

I have some adult birds that I will probably be selling as well. I will update the chickenstock page when I figure it all out.

Edited to add: there are 60 total eggs in my bator. My hatch rate will be less than 60% as I started with 106, but I'd be thrilled with 50%!

Any chance that more will hatch?
Yes but I don't know when. Soon I hope.

Without a pic it might be hard to decide. If he has a butt, he most likely is an Amer. As for your argument, try not to let it bother you. Such is life.

Everyone else: I think this rooster I thoughts was dumped is mine. He has whiskers and a beard but is straight combed. The winter has been long and I've not had time to sit and look at the birds. He must have gotten out and I may have thought him a hen. Otherwise I would not have kept him. Still he would be an OE if he had a rosecomb. He could be crossed back to a Amer to get OE chicks I think. Anyone care to comment.
