NY chicken lover!!!!

In this basket are 17 Silkies, plus a few buff Orps and a couple of Marans....

Supposedly, there are white silkies, buff, BBS, black/lave splits & 1 Calico. But, all the silkies that have any buff on them also have blue, so I think they are really porcelain. The one "white" marked egg, hatched out a blue chick, so there may be more that were mis marked.

Anyways, they are cute, cute, cute!

Oh, and one with a bare neck.....showgirl?

No fair. Really. I don't want to look at cute little fuzzy butts. Now I am going to want all 7 eggs to hatch and what am I going to do with 7 more chickens? Hmmm? You just HAD to post that pic of those cuties, didn't you?

I have an 8x8 foot coop. In it are 3 roos, 4 banties, 1 Brahma, 1 mutt, 2 olive eggers, 1 Maran and 2 juvie Road Island Reds or Brown leghorns (actually NO CLUE what I hatched out, but they look most like those breeds) That's 14 chickens BEFORE the new eggs hatch. 14 + 7 = 21 THAT"S A LOT OF CHICKENS. (and that doesn't count the ones on the other side of the coop...there's 5 more over there)

I sent birds to Kings. Never again, those cheapos hardly paid anything for really good stock. Nuts to them. It cost more in gas to drive there than to just chop their heads off and toss 'em.

I am asking $15 for new layers and pure Dels at that. I'm not taking less by any means. It's just not right to expect to pay cheap prices. I do however just give the older girls away. They're usually still laying and if you only want eggs for yourself they're pretty good. For a small family that isn't looking to sell eggs or only needs a couple doz a week they're good. If they keep 6 to 12 birds, I should think.

Anyhow I don't buy birds from just anyone anyhow. I buy from good breeders and pay fair prices. I'm considering ordering from Green Fire and probably will but I'm not going to be selling chicks for $5 that's for darn sure. Maybe the Swedish Flowers, they 're about $20 ea now. The orps are $99 a chick. I just gotta save up a little and make sure I have a coop just for what I order.

Does anyone know anything about their Birchen Marans?

Rancher,

Do you still have that barred EE? That was a cool bird.

I have two, one of which jumps the fence. They are laying now but tan eggs since they are single comb. I will be breeding them back to the Lav Amer. roo come spring time. Lord only knows what will be the result.

Do you know the times for that auction Saturday?

Which one, the one in Batavia? That one says consignment starts at 6:30, sale at 8:30. I think the FL one starts around the same times?

I didn't go to the FL one they had last month, so I dunno how it went. I immagine both will be much like all the other fall auctions, low low prices. lol

I had two Dom hens but gave them away as they were two years old. I probably should have kept one of them but I find that breeds do better in pairs. Kinda like Nuns.

I guess I can always come and get your roo.

But then I'd need to breed him to my EE's and then use their son to breed to my barred hens, with single combs. OOOOOhhhhh wouldn't it be neat to get a Ebar breed going. They would be like Legbars and that sort of thing. Easy to sex at birth.

Legbars lay blue eggs, but with the Ebar they'd lay green, blue, olive, or whatever. Just colored eggs. AND with a rosecomb they'd be good for colder areas of the country. Unlike single combs that can be a pain both for the chciken and you.

Oooooh - love that idea. Count me in on that one.
