NY chicken lover!!!!

Has anyone ever had a new chick hatch out blind? He opens one eye but I'm not sure if he can see at all. Is there any ways to know for sure. He kinda walks around but looks like he's drunk when he walks, and walks into the water and feeder, abd will also just stand and look straight up for minutes at a time. He seems healthy but I just have never had a chick act in this way. Any thoughts?

I don't know how to tell for sure unless he has cataracts. If so, the lens will look 'glassy' or opaque. I have a hen that had cataracts from birth - she sees a little light and can navigate fairly well, but it took time for her to find her way around. Chicks can be born w/o eyes (Mumble the chicken), of course they are totally dependent on you and cannot live w/o intensive care. Make sure you keep the feeder and drinkers in the same place so it can get used to the space dynamic.
It sounds also possibly a neurological thing too, try vitamins in the water and see if things improve.

I moved the chicks to the brooder in the barn two days ago. I had one that was still curling his toes and I contemplated keeping it inside, but the other chicks seemed to be getting along well with it so I kept them all together. Yesterday, every chick was fine and the gimpy chick was still gimpy. This morning I checked on them and couldn't find it. All the other chicks were there. I must have counted ten times and picked up each Marans chick ten times before I realized, it is there, just not gimpy anymore. It is upright, walking normal, eating drinking and feathering normal. It's a touch smaller thanks to its sticky start, but I was thrilled to see it getting around well.

Yup, its that time of year! Trees and flowers are booming, people are mowing their lawns... Yup this can only mean one thing.... Its allergy season!!! I have been sneezing non stop!

In other news I did see a Monarch butterfly yesterday. He said he was getting an early start to Mexico.

Seriously, i am sorry for your trouble. Have you called your doc about getting tested? I finally did after years of suffering and seeing multiple Drs, got tested and now take Loratadine every day. No more carrying a pocket full of tissues everywhere I go.

I do have outbreaks if working in the garden or coop, so I wear a mask.

Nothing works for me ... I'm just allergic to all sorts of pollen, Hay, Trees, Weeds, grass etc. Yea, I wear a mask too
