NY chicken lover!!!!

Sorry I can't help you with the ducks, rancher. I also can't take in any more chickens. I have too much going on. I hope you have luck selling or giving them away.

This weather has been lovely. Too hot for some, I understand, but I think I'm solar powered and just feel better on sunny days. I do appreciate the rain a lot too, and I look forward to some thunder showers.

I have 7 cockerels on craigslist. The blue marans are looking like blue copper. In a week I'll know if I'm listing more chicks.

Time to rest. Hope everyone is well.

Well if the bill color is an indicator and the females beaks are darker, I did notice one of the seven that has a lighter beak. Too It's also a little more confident I think.
No tail feathers curling yet though. They all seem to be the same shade.

How old are they? The fastest and easiest way to sex ducks is by their voices.

Sun Motivates me too ...a little hot today ..I have a slight sun burn on my back and shoulders

should I look for brown on my friends maran pullet ?

How would I do that. They all talk at once so it's hard to tell who's saying what. I tell them ONE at a time but they don't listen. Apparently I've not learned how to quote yet. Pyrix.

Females have loud braying quacks, males are low and raspy and sound like they smoke a pack a day compared to the girls. Here's a video, male first and then female.

Thanks, I'll have a listen and see who's who.
With chicks I just laid shoe ads on one end and sports stories on the other. The ones that ran to the shoe ads were girls and the ones that ran to the sports stories were boys. Girls just can resist a pair of Jimmy Choo's.

First post on the new site - hi everyone - I missed my daily check in reading the NY threads of the 'chicken people'

Little confused why in my 'watched threads' the NY Chickenstock one is still listed there, but the NY chicken lover one has vanished? (Checked categories for those with unread posts and those with nothing new). When I did a search I kept getting warnings about the 'security certificate' of the site not being valid. I eventually found it by backtracking in my account to show one of my previous posts, and found 3 new pages of messages... when I go to the very bottom of the page the check box for 'follow this thread' is checked.... anyone a bit more computer / website savvy than me have any suggestions?

Lots to catch up on, exciting to read of new hatchings, sorry about ridiculous lack of customer service for the blue birchen maran order, and glad to read sickly new young chickens responding to electrolytes, probiotics and supportive care. Sad I have to work and can't make it to Chickenstock.

Still adjusting to being down to just 3 chickens, missing Miss Pearl, and interesting to see the shuffling of pecking order. Have been looking back through old pics of her - love this one from Feb when she had some snack debris on her beak which Fern was quick to help herself to!

Sadly no luck at all with finding a pair of younger chicks to add (was hoping for young enough to go straight outside, 2-6 months, of different breeds to mean I could add a blue / green egg layer, and maybe a dark brown egg layer. Maybe lighter colored birds like buff or lavender, as my remaining chickens are darker colors). Think I may have to revise my plans and get the young chick brooder under lights set back up in the basement. Please keep me in mind if any of your flock plans change, or you have extra birds left after Chickenstock.

Glad site is back up and running!
I might have some you might be interested in.
