Ugh! I can't be there but my thoughts are with you. The usual reasons are pests (rats), disease and noise.Hi NYers! It's been a very long time since I've been here!
I live in Tully, south of Syracuse, for the last three years, and have been able to have a small backyard flock (currently three hens) in accordance with local law. Well, the mayor who was responsible for Tully allowing chickens, has moved away, and they just announced (literally a few days after she left) that they are holding a special meeting to discuss chickens in town. Which of course means they want to do away with having them.
There are very few folks in town who have chickens (including myself I know of three), so I'm worried there will be no one showing up in support of keeping things as they are. The negative voices are always so loud...
So anyway, if any CNY friends would be available to show up in support of keeping chickens legal in Tully, the meeting will be this Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7 pm at the Municipal Building on Meeting House Road.
Any support or advice would be greatly appreciated. Living in Tully has been a miserable experience, and I have considered having chickens one of the few positives... Thanks in advance for reading. Dorothea
Thanks boskelli! I'm definitely trying to get some information together before Wednesday.Ugh! I can't be there but my thoughts are with you. The usual reasons are pests (rats), disease and noise.
There is a ton of articles on the web addressing those 3 things. I suggest that you arm yourself with information regarding those issues. I would think the onus is on folks to prove there is a problem - but who knows?![]()
