NY chicken lover!!!!

We had a frost lastnight. Took extra precautions with all my young birds to make sure they could handle it. Gonna warm up a bit again, thank goodness. Not quite ready for this cold yet.

Well we wanted it to cool down ....
Now I want it to warm up a bit ...
Anyone get a frost last night ? it was looking like one this morning ..
Ya - slight frost here, down to 37F - bit of a shock to wake up to! :th It warmed up nicely tho' put the chicks out around 10 and it was 68 by then. If you believe the weather peeps - some nice weather ahead....I'll check my crystal ball :)

Hi all! :frow

I've been "missing the action" for awhile now. Like 113 "unread" posts. Not going to try catching up. Hope everyone has been ok.

A friend near me is trying to sell her young birchen Marans rooster and hen pair & I thought someone on here, perhaps @rancher hicks was looking for one a few months ago. So, I thought I'd mention it here in case anyone is interested. If so, contact either me or @Hilly78 - Chenango County.

I went through a major downsizing this past month, as the last few year's accumilation of "chicken math" had escalated to a point it was hard to have time for the animals plus regular responsibilities. I sold my ducks & over 70 chickens (including young pullets). While I still have a big flock, it's easier to manage now. I have a bunch of roosters & a few meat chickens left to process, but I'm considering taking them to a processor, just to get it done all at once.

I prepared for a frost, but didn't have one. Only a very light frost on the grass clippings from the neighbor's newly mowed orchard. I'm thankful we've not had a frost yet, because the garden did poorly this year. But, the late planted zucchini & yellow scallop squash is just now starting to produce.
Threat of one tonight as well.

I have these three cockerels for free if anyone wants them. All hatched in July and super friendly. Im NPIP.

That naked neck is so cute!! Wish I could have a rooster! The little silkies we got from you are still doing great and getting along with the original 5 well. Still get pecked from time to time but nothing awful. The blue isn’t crowing or anything so I’m thinking you were right in that she’s a she @FishMtFarm

Anyone here have Seramas? I’m thinking about getting a couple but the hubby is against it so definitely won’t want them in the house. Wondering how well they do in our winters? (I’m a bit north of Albany-near Saratoga and Clifton Park)
