NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi folks, know it's been a while. Still in NYS, covid put the cabosh on moving to TX. Anyhow looking for a few hens. Older girls are okay. Gave away my other girls thinking I'd be moving south. Too I'd lost interest since my wife died. No new romance to report. Since that isn't happening thought I'd get a few girls to keep me busy. Maybe 6-12. Any breed is fine. Did have a garden this year but still working so it didn't get tended to my liking. Birds got all the concord grapes though I did pick currants, jostaberries and goose berries. Made some jelly. Have a new granddaughter that I babysit on Thursdays. She's being a good girl right now. Too, might be interested in hiring someone to mow my grass. Have a new self propelled. Should have got a rider. Well I'll try to stay connected. If anyone has some old girls to give up that would be nice. Don't need to get them all from the same person so if you have one or two I can add til I get enough. Hope everyone is doing well, TTFN, Rancher.
My friend told me of 9 hens and a rooster, all Golden Comets, free, very close to Cooperstown, NY. They may be about a year old, I'm checking, my friend who walks came across them only in October on his usual route. I'd love for them to not end up in freezer camp...can't take any myself, I don't h IMG_0684.JPG ave the facilities and the bargain with my DH is no roosters!

Cooperstown area, chickens need a good home, not freezer camp! 9 hens, one roo. Friend was told they are Golden Comets, but someone here on the BST thread thinks they are Buff Orpingtons, and that they are young birds. I was guessing from my friend's experience seeing them that they are under a year old. I can't take them, I have a small coop and 4 pullets, can't take them or the rooster (DH objects). Here's another picture:

If it wasn’t 2 hour away for me I would take them all I have plenty of space for them.

You would care for them and not slaughter them? I would be willing to go get them (half hour from me), & drive to meet you at least halfway. My folks had a camp in the Neversink area years ago and Liberty was my backyard. But I'm not sure how to transport that many. I have a car large enough but not the crate. A dog cage I just got could hold four. Hmmmm.

100% a no kill house here. I too have no way to transport them or even meet half way right now but if they could get to liberty they have a home. sorry 4 kids and wife works at night and kids homeschool. But I have 18 bird flock started this spring. I ended up with 6 Cornish cross straight run birds from TSC that were a mistake and my wife refuses to kill them. I’m doing my best to try to limit their intake to control their weight so the live A while. everyone that has been lost has been from something natural except for one of my roosters that was dinner to some predator of some kind. We have 7 roosters currently in the coop, 5 of them are in their own pad attached to the run with the rest of the flock. I had to split them when they got old enough to really over due it mating the girls. 2 roosters run with my girls now, one EE and one Cornish Cross Roo. They live in an approximately 10’x10’ chicken coop with a extremely large outside run attached.
sorry I can’t be more helpful.

OK, I will see if there's a way, and I would go to you in the event we can do this. Don't know even if they are still alive or available, my friend doesn't really know this person well, just sees him when on a walk, and had contacted me because that guy asked him about them two days ago. When I emailed him tonight he said he didn't know anything new.

Wow is it cold here on the mountain today. 26degrees today. This sucks! Even the chickens aren’t happy. I need to find a way to keep these water bowls from freezing 🥶. Going out 2 or 3 times a day to change frozen water is a bear.
i Really wouldn’t complain if we stayed 35degrees right through spring at least it wouldn’t be freezing everything!

but atleast I got 6 more eggs today and one of my EE from TSC is laying green eggs! I was very surprised!
now I have brown, green and pink eggs almost everyday! the kids love it they are amazed everyday!

I use this heated bowl tsc. It works great and much cheaper than anything else I found. View attachment 2440079
I will look into those. I’m kicking myself Bc all summer TSC had the large heated poultry fountains and I told myself “yeah I’ll get one when I need to” and now I’m struggling a little with it lol. I guess that’s why the saying “don’t put off for tomorrow what can get done today”

Can I post to re-home 11 week old cockerels here? I’m pretty sure I’m too far from like everyone but Craigslist hardly gets me anywhere. I have two olive eggers that I can’t keep because I have too many Roos already. I’m in Schoharie county. I’m asking for 5$ each on Craigslist to weed out the crazies but I will re-home them to anyone on here for free.
