Well now , the way to a friends house is never long, I always say.

As for the hatch, I may just give it a shot. Though I have no where to put chicks after this batch. Unless of course I'm building in the snow, and my friend arthritis won't cooperate, for that.

Well gotta run,

I've used a plastic grain bag. Cut off one corner big enough for the head & tie the bag to something so it hangs down. We've also just tied up the legs and hung them like that. Some flap around a little so then we hold them still, some just hang there quietly.

Rancher - yeah, I know what you mean.

Probably get the same reaction from DH. Matter of fact, I did when I brought it up.

Can't fight good sense though. Will concentrate on Jarhouns this year and improving the flock we have.

It's probably a good thing that I don't currently have an incubator, as I'd be tempted to set some of my Leghorn's eggs to see if they're fertile (she continues to be my big boy's favorite girl - he moons about after her constantly), and to see what a White Leghorn/SS cross looks like.

Hey, gang - let me ask you for a tiny favor. I had a job interview Wednesday for a staff pharmacist position at Express Scripts in Troy. As pharmacy benefit management companies don't mess around, they're making their hiring decisions and contacting the candidates either way today (Friday - yes, it is indeed 2 AM, because I'm an owl by nature). I came out of the interview feeling that it went well, although of course you never know. The big boss was interested in one of my degrees (my MS) because it's from a University of Florida distance program, and actually said, "I'd love to hear more about that program sometime soon, as it sounds really cool - you'll have to tell me all about it," which struck me as a good sign. She also made a couple of other comments that strongly suggested that she had put me into the "keeper" category. So, if you could keep your fingers crossed for me, I'd appreciate it! I'd love to get this job, as it would be infinitely less stressful than my current retail position at an absolutely crazy-busy chain pharmacy. Improved quality of life? Yes, please!

I'm not normally a night owl, but I just got home from work.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and praying for you.

Henicillin-- I will keep my fingers crossed. My former boss now works for them. Has been there about 2 years. He lives up there anyways so it saved him an hour and 20 min commute each day. As a tech who works for a chain pharmacy, I certainly understand where you are coming from and the crazy season is just getting started! I hope you get the job. I heard it was really good.

On another note, Mumbles is getting a reprieve until spring from the dh. He wants him as an extra heater in the silkie coop. I doubt he will straighten out by then but since this is our first winter with silkies, that does make sense. Frost this morning. I will have to make everyone some warm oatmeal this morning!

Henicillin, got mine crossed for you too. (makes it pretty darn near impossible to type tho) Good luck to you. Hope you get the job.

Good luck to you Henicillin! I know how hard it is to find a decent job . As a nurse, it's really hard to find something decent (especially with the low salaries this way compared to what I am used to). It must be doubly hard for a pharmacist, with fewer jobs to choose from.

Brr.. finally cold out there this morning. Actually had some frozen water, so I have to troubleshoot one of my dog bowls to see what's up there. Haven't found any local eggs for the NYD hatch so I may just try my own mutts and see if having the rooster cooped up with the 20 pullets for a bit each day will up the fertility. I AM curious to see what a NNxEE will turn out to look like.

Too bad my roo isn't a NN.

I wish the weather would make up its mind.
