NY chicken lover!!!!

Mud, MUD and more MUD!!!!

And here I was wishing for spring???? I simply forgot how darn muddy my yard is when it thaws. I saw a chicken slip in the mud. I'm not going down there unless I have to until Summer. They can come to the porch for their treats.

Every time I go out the coop I get mud all over my pants. I try to wear the same ones but that can mean a change if I've been doing something where clean pants are necessary. It was funny to watch the chickens slide on the puddles still covered with ice.

I took the Queen out in her stroller to see them today. She's so cute. Chickens all came around as I threw bread near her stroller. I tried to sit out there for a bit, but Lord have mercy it was just too cold. I did take her for a short walk but it was hard clodding along in my muck boots.

We go around the parking lot of the school across the road. Can't imagine what the teenagers coming out thought. I should have said see what you've got to look forward to? I love to take the Queen out.

The wind is up now. I heard trees falling in the woods when I went out to close up. Heaven keep the chickens safe.

Take care, love ya,

I gave up with getting my pants dirty. Bought a $10 pair of bib snow pants and a $10 jacket from Wally World to work outside in. Keeps my clothes clean and best of all they were really cheap. Hang them up in the cellar stairs when I am done. DH keeps asking me if I want a set of Carharts. They are BIG money and my cheap ones work just fine, thank you very much.

Keep safe and no more falling anyone please.

I have a set of overalls I got at a thrift store for $1, and a heavyweight hoodie someone gave me that I wear over my sweatpants and sweatshirt for cold weather, for wet weather, I pull on a jogging suit that was also given to me. The jogging pants have zippers at the bottom so they can go over my $20 boots on sale from TSC. (I am too cheap to pay more for clothes that I wear to get muddy in.

Well, I managed to get the big coop all cleaned out and new shavings down yesterday afternoon. Found a use for the old shavings. Sprinkled them on all the ice that is around the coop so I was able to walk and work around it with less fear of falling! Sure did need cleaning out. All the damp weather had made the shavings damp and it was starting to smell. Dh was kind enough to scrape out what evil white stuff was left in the run and emptied a bag of pine needle/leaves into the run. The girls were thrilled and were digging around happily in it when I got home from work. While I was cleaning, they discovered that one side of the skirt was semi open and they busted out for some freeranging. Funniest thing watching them sliding over the ice, landing in snow and trying to get to the open grassy spots in the yard! Even funnier watching them trying to figure out how to get back to the coop as the only way back was across the evil white stuff again! Dh had to pick up a couple of the girls and carry them back (at his own risk of falling on the ice) to the coop and then herded the rest back over the snow. Now my little silkies? They piled out of their run and had no issues running across the snow and ice. They were just happy to be out running around. Go figure. Keeping my fingers crossed that the girls will start laying soon. Maybe the nice clean house and extra protein they have been getting will encourage them.

Off to earn the chicken feed again. Have a great day!

It does feel good to have a clean coop!

Chickens outside large coop enjoying the weather.

Hapyy nice.

Now I was out doing what I do in the yard no snow you know and I was looking at the roos and the only one without damage is the BR in the hoop coop.

Apparently I said Trilyns hoops freak me out with nothing on the front but I imagine they are along the line of Open Air coops. I don't think she is wrong, just want clear that up. I just to much of a wuss to do the same. I know I should probably save my money intstead of putting up the felt and plastic, but I do it for me not them.

I will have to make some modifications to the wooden coop. Like tear off the front.

Well not really but i will do something. The humidity is just to high in both coops. I should have stocked up on wood chips. I've read to rake the flooring to keep it dryer.

ta, ta fopr now,
