She did, the wench! She LOVES eggs. We call them "The Holy Food," because she gets a worshipful look on her face whenever she sees one. Her brother likes them, but he's not mad for them the way she is.

Close-To-MA here. I was born and raised over the border in Pittsfield, and I can say without hesitation that, even were I living there now, I wouldn't drive to Townsend - that's a long haul (100+ miles).

Well, I might for a bee colony nucleus, but that's because they're hard to come by.

Ooh, nice! I may have to see if I can manage to beg, borrow, or steal the 31st off. That reminds me that Alan and I need to join that club.

It'd be bad if i somehow managed to order chicks and bees to arrive on the same day. My postmaster would probably be waiting for me at the door of the post office with a shotgun.

A friend and I are planning on going to the seminar. I am hoping to find someone with bees locally that I could pick up.

THREE HOURS??? Darn. I wonder how far the NH one is. LOTS of people signed up for that one.

Still need to get one going here in Middle NY....Or Syracuse? LOL

The tinest D'uccle isn't doing so good. I can't lose sleep over it, so I hope it makes it through the night. Sometimes the stress of transport is just too much for the little ones. Sigh. I moved the water and food closer to where it flopped down and hope it revives enough to get something to drink and eat. (And I had the heat up to 85 in the car, sweating my butt off)

We'd love a nuc colony, but realistically we'll probably end up with package bees. Unfortunately, Betterbee isn't doing packages this year, as, according to their blog, their supplier hasn't had very good quality over the past few years. There's a big supplier in Pennsylvania who has Italians as well as a couple of hybrids and who ships. I think I'm going to end up using them, as that isn't too terribly far from us.

I do have an email in to one of the big local beekeepers who is listed on several sites as having overwintered and spring nucs available occasionally. If he's doing nucs this year, I'll let you know!

Now I really want to go to the seminar. I'll have to see if I can do a little bit of horse trading with my partners to try to get the day off.

hi all of you NY bycers, I have been reading this for a long time and was Wonder if I can join in the fun??? and I have a Q. have any of you hatched store bought eggs?? I ask because I am making a large bater and my hens are not laying a lot of eggs and I need meat birds. so I was thinking of getting store bought brown eggs and because of family problems, I don't have a lot of money to buy hatching eggs from breeders . what do you all think of store bought eggs for hatching?? oh, and have any of you made your own bater using light bulbs???
