NY chicken lover!!!!

Good Luck Hen!!!

Went to the tailgate sale in Highland and it was cool. Saw lots of critters of various breeds and species. I was good and didnt buy anything (mostly because my dh was there!). Went into tsc looking for boots but no luck. Did get some chicken stuff, Went to lowes and got more chicken stuff. Went to agway and got even more chicken stuff then went home to unload all the chicken stuff and finish setting up the brooder. It was a good morning and got home just before it started raining.

Cheeps were let out for freeranging time and even the rain didnt bother them because they were out freeranging! If they were in their run, they would have hidden under their coop out of the rain. Silly chickens.

I candled again today and am down to 13 eggs from the 32 I started with. I am sooooo hoping these 13 make it to hatch day next week. Trying so hard to not bother them. I did open all the ones I pulled and only found a few that had quit after my last candle. Some were clear. Hatching shipped eggs is so hard sometimes. Keeping my fingers crossed for the rest.

Hope everyone elses hatch is doing better than mine. Be well.

Thanks for the good vibes, y'all!

Even if they were to hire me, I would probably stay on with my current employers on a per diem basis for chicken money. Somebody has to feed the feathered troops, not to mention, y'know, buy more troops.

They had white Leghorn pullet chicks at TSC last week. I'm off Tuesday - the allure of half a dozen more Leghorn girls may well become more tempting than I can stand.

Thanks for the Info. Home Depot is a LOT further away than Town Hall, but the hours are more doable. I'll keep it in mind for when the bulbs blow in 5 - 7 years.

because the elected officials decided that they wasted too much energy. They fell it is safer to use mercury filled bulbs than a safe affordable light bulb. I listened to a talk about this on the radio, and "rough service" bulbs from an auto parts store are still legal. They are available in 100 watts, and as a bonus, can take a beating before blowing. They have stronger filiments for the service industry's.

I guess they are to stupid to realize how toxic mercury is.

The government wants to control everything we do including lighting.

They can't control drug trafficing, so control what kind of light bulb law abiding citizens use.

The government was lobbied by those who produce the bulbs, that are considered HAZARDOUS WASTE....sure they save a little on the electicity we use, but really....we can't just throw them in the trash like the old bulbs. And I just KNOW everyone is going to take their blown CFL bulbs to the town hall collection box (open M -F, 8-4 ONLY)....instead of just throwing them in their household trash. Right? Ummm...NO...I can't get there during work hours, I have to WORK for a living....so mine, when they finally blow, are going in the household trash and are going to be contaminating your ground water. Sorry.
I have never seen a CFL collection box!!!

I just submitted my application for a full-time outpatient pharmacist position at Stratton VAMC in Albany. I've wanted to work there since I was in pharmacy school (did a clinical rotation for infectious disease there and LOVED it), and one of my BFFs is a clinical pharmacist there, so if you have any good-luck vibes you could send my way, I'd appreciate it!

Wishing you loads of luck!!!!!

Can't eat fish on a regular basis without worrying about the toxins so lets just add more mercury to the water. Someone just tell me to put the soap box away.I don't have any broody chicks, eggs in an incubator, can't buy any more ---'Cause I live on this Island...I'm living through guys and loving it.

Well, I ended up with 11 or 12 Silkies from the shipped eggs, so around 50%. I'm going to have to cull at least one of them though, it has a dislocated leg in addition to a club foot, the feet are iffy on at least two more too. What on earth do you tape silkie chicks feet with? Naturally its on the whites, not on the colors I didn't want. :(

I think we figured out that its our water that keeps killing the hygrometers from Walmart, I've gone thru four of them and today went hmmm, wonder if its the sulphur corroding them like it does the gazillion smoke detectors here!

AND why is it so freaking hard to get anyone to close a door? I have a SIGN on the door to Keep the door closed. BC Bad Kitty keeps trying to get in the brooders, on top of the quail cage, etc etc. I finally said the cat is going to start the freaking house on fire... He'll sneak down there after you and then hide in the piles of junk that is down there (I have a husband who does not throw stuff away...)

Did the Cortland TSC run this morning, only had part of the 625 chick shipment, rest comes in Tuesday and Wednesday. Today they had a huge bin of Buff Orp, bin of Tetra Tints, one of Golden Comet/Red Sex Link and one of Cornish Rock cross. Not what I was hoping for. Guess I'll make a couple trips after work the next two days to see what else they get. Still hoping for Sussex, Wellsummer and Dominique, maybe another Australorp or EE.
