NY chicken lover!!!!

I just submitted my application for a full-time outpatient pharmacist position at Stratton VAMC in Albany. I've wanted to work there since I was in pharmacy school (did a clinical rotation for infectious disease there and LOVED it), and one of my BFFs is a clinical pharmacist there, so if you have any good-luck vibes you could send my way, I'd appreciate it!

This LONE CHICK is gonna drive me crazy....the cheeping, cheeping, cheeping!!!! I can't hear it at night, but during the day...OMG...

I put a hardware cloth divider up between the lone chick and the Sumatras .... the lone chick stuck it's beak through the wire and the Sumatras pecked the heck out of it....so I put the wood divider back up. Since the lone chick didn't stop peeping with the wire up, the wood isn't going to make a difference to the chick.

And this chick is sooo small even another day old would overwhelm it....so I am going to buy ear plugs. Sincerely, it is making me nuts.

Good luck! I've applied for several RN jobs there (used to work for the VA in California), but so far no dice. I hope you have much better luck!! =)

*raises hand* I was one of the BYC friends - we kept waving at each other.

I thought it was great when the one speaker said, "how long does it take to grow out a meat chicken?" and a bunch of people all over the room piped up with "six to eight weeks." I told Alan that we're among our people!

I just loved it - I'm a biology geek at heart. I ordered two packages of Italians from the apiary in Pennsylvania, as everyone I contacted locally was out, darn the luck. We're setting up one of Alan's 30-year-old traditional wooden hives and a new Beemax hive to see which one does better. Technology vs. old-school!

My friend that has her hives in Feura Bush is going to split a few and gives me one in May!! Awesome, bees that are accustomed to our area. PA is actually where I was looking for bees, climate...

This the season for broody hens and hatching eggs. I just gave my LF Cochin hen 16 EE eggs to hatch out. We'll see how she does with all those eggs!

I'm also putting Cayuga and Saxony duck eggs in the bator tonight after the kids go to bed. I've never used an incubator (little giant still air) so we'll see how it goes!

Good luck to you!

I got my little fuzzy butts! Happyhen's 3 Orpingtons (1 blue, 2 black, Tab kept the splash for breeding) plus 4 Ancona, 1 Australorp, 1 GLW and 1 EE (looks the same as the GLW right now). Everyone is happily cheeping and running around. Tomorrow morning is the TSC trip for a few more!
