NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm inundated with chicks! I was bummed about the few dead chicks and now I am heading up on almost 40 chicks!! LOL. I'll be selling those off next weekend for sure. :p

Made progress on the run today. Won't be able to finish until next weekend but it's partially up!

Hubby is a prepper, as many of you know.. But he lays in a year's supply of pop tarts and insists that doritos are 'survival food'. :p He does need more guy friends tho in this area- he wants a tractor and doesn't know what to get (used) , he wants to dig big holes in the yard and build things, yada yada. :)

He seriously needs to get together with Alan, who will happily talk his ear off about the tractor he's restoring. The latest plan here is a combination pole barn/garage to be dug into the side of the hill in the backyard. I said whatever, as long as he gets a permit.

Stonykill: Great tag sale find!

Featherz: Congrats on all your chicks. Hope you find the tractor you are looking for. We are currently repairing our John Deere 1010. We use it to mow the lawn (3 acres of it). Today put up a temporary fence to let the chickens out in the front yard where the grass is getting tall. They are doing a good job, but I hope the tractor is fixed soon.

I will need more chickens to eat the whole yard and then more again to eat the grass where we planted our pine trees (2 more acres). Yup, must need a whole lot of chickens. Oh honnnnneyyyyyy....... (recieving stink eye from DH).

I wish.....have some coming that are from hatching eggs that Mugsmagee gave to me that the school is hatching. Also have some Jaheurns scheduled to arrive about the time the school chicks come home. That is all that I could squeeze into our happy marrage.

Your turken is extra cute. Never was a fan of turkens, but that one is super cute!

These are the creme and brown eggs we colored last night. the uncolored parts are where the kids wrote on them with a wax crayon. I will never be afraid to color brown eggs again. The ones with dark spots were super cool and looked like dinosaur eggs when colored. The dark brown eggs in yellow turned out pumpkin colored and the dark brown in blue were teal. Green and Red stayed true to color regardless of how dark the eggs was. Bear in mind we have no Merans, but these are wyandotte, old english game, austrolorp, partridge rock, red star and rhode island red eggs.
I did not try to color the ameraucana eggs as they are already so pretty. :)

Happy Easter Everyone. We are celebrating Jesus here today!

What did you use to get them so dark?

Demp - I have no idea what the problem could be.

I was reading another forum (who's name totally slips my mind at the moment) and one of the things that was repeated over and over was "it never hurts to ask"....so I asked ray's daughter what she was going to do with the welded wire fence in the garage....she said "Throw it out". OMG...nooooo....so she let me have it. Ray's flowers will be safe from chickens and it didn't cost me a cent. Personally I was hoping they would eat them all off AND the weeds to, so I didn't have to sit on the deck and watch him weed them all summer, but now I won't have to listen to him whine about how the chickens are ruining his garden. Can you tell that our relationship is kinda backwards? LOL

Rancher: Dip hard boiled egg in weak vinegar water and wipe off.
Put 20 drops of food coloring in a cup
Put 1 tbs vinegar in cup with food coloring
Put 1/2 cup of water into the cup with the food coloring and vinegar mix
Dip egg into cup. The longer you leave it in, the richer the color will be.
The darker brown eggs make darker jewel tones, the lighter brown eggs make brighter jewel tones.

lol @ dorito's and pop tarts. Nothing like burying bagged chemicals in plastic chemical laden totes in the backyard

. I like my tractors. Gravely's in particular. 5-1/2 Gravely's and MANY attachments for them. A few Jacobsens, as well. I need the small tractors on the small farm.

one of my 2 wheel tractors and a small garden I put in last year for a client. The tractor is a 69 Gravely.

and I do a few garden beds in one of our 6 acre fields

I do have tractors with 4 wheels as well.

a few more as well. Small front end loader. One of those tow behind backhoes, etc. You need tools to run a small farm and old large garden tractors fit the bill just fine.
