Not in to Poke Mon but I like number four.

I still think you have something else going on here. Tree rats are a nuisance at best. As I said earlier in the thread I have killed more than 2 dozen predators this year so far.16 coons, 3 possum, 3 weasels, 2 foxes, and a bobcat. So squirrels.....

We shall see when I set a rat trap or two. Caught another mouse last night. These are inside the two rooms off the garage. Storage areas. I do have some young hens in one room though. I may move them out to the coop soon. They're not near laying but fully feathered.

crazy4 chicks- I give them extra BOSS. During the molt they need more protein to grow back their feathers. I also give them a little vitamins in the water.

Stony - I noticed the wooden eggs are missing out of the nest boxes in one coop and the EE's are up on the roost more than usual. The BM hens have moved to laying in the BR coop. The chicks in the hoop coop don't hang out near the coop either. The squirrel I caught was in a trap just outside the coop.

Agway has a 21% protein Egg Producer pellet. I've read that Heritage breeds need more protein than Hybrids.

Marq - you may be right and I'll be setting more traps and a rat trap too. Might a well and it can't hurt.

vmdaniel - Have you got a pic of your meal worm set up? That sound interesting.
I don't have a picture....but I will try over the next few days.......I am not very tecnologically advanced!!
Gramma--Im not into pokemon but I do like your chicken ones.

cracrz--asking questions is a good thing. You will get the hang of all these terms as time goes on.

So I looked up the fermented food thing. It looks interesting but I am wondering if it would be too fattening for laying hens. Its used to put meat on meat chickens but to do so on layers would be detrimental I would think. Anyone want to weigh in on the subject? I might be willing to try it if it doesnt make my hens fat and increases their egg production again. I have been supplementing with fruits and veges and protein from unwanted leftovers. Boss is really expensive down here now but I may have to bite the bullet and get some anyways.

Finally starting to feel human again so I am off to get my snow tires on then coming home to let my silkies out for a while while I do some cleaning of their coops. If I have time I will spruce up the terrorists coop as well. Those boys have been real respectful ever since I netted them and pinned them down. I still watch them like a hawk though. Speaking of hawks, I havent seen or heard them for some time. Perhaps they have finally moved on. Still not taking any chances though.

I have begun to feed fermented food. My thought is that because I do not light, the opportunity for my chickens to eat is limited. I will feed the fermented foods for the darkest months of the year, starting with the first chicken molting, ending in March. Being that it is cold and dark, extra nutrition can not hurt, besides I like the whole beneficial bugs thing.

They are certainly cute figurines, but I really don't know anything about pokeman. Are they still popular? Wasn't there a cartoon?

I do like the Agway 21% egg producer. I use it for my Marans because they do need extra protein to lay. Its a few dollars more per bag, but what is the 16% worth if they aren't laying eggs on it?

Someone told me about this trick for a blocked crop.

Put a waterer in with half red wine, half water in with the chicken. The next day, hold the chicken upside down while massaging the crop. The blockage if not already dissolved, will come out.

It works. I had an Wyandotte with a blocked crop, did the wine, etc. and she recovered. What came out of her was somewhat "yucky" but it came out.

I left her in with the half wine water for a couple of days without food, just to make sure.

She is still alive after a year.

And yes, I hated to give her my good red wine, but it was worth it!

I just switched over to that one about 3 weeks ago, my birds LOVE it. My guys aren't free ranging this time of year, so I feel like they need a little more protein to make up for the bugs and what not that they aren't getting outside.

CM had to order me some cuz they didn't have the Egg Producer. Said no one has asked for it lately. It is more money but the same as Dumor or Purina I think. My BM's are laying fairly well considering.

Dels Ok too but nothing in the BR or SLW box. I wonder if it has to do with the BM going in and laying their eggs there.

The Sussex is still brooding those three chicks. I have to take them and move them so she goes back to laying.

Bought a rat trap today and a couple of the new type Victor mouse traps. They look easier to set. Less chance of snapping my fingers, I hope. Reached to set a trap last night and didn't notice that the mouse had just taken the food and the traps was still set.

For those of us who do not have access or want to buy acv with Mother, I use the cheap acv from Walmart, and it is just as effective. Yes, Poops firm up and are normal. I put a little in each time I give water. Probably about 2 "glugs" per 5 gallon bucket. My birds seem to be healthier when I use it. When I forget to buy it and they go a little while without, I regret it every time....

I was huge into Pokemon a few years ago... on the Nintendo DS, the 3rd in your pic, is Torchic... my fave... I had all level 100 super powerful characters that I could breed... crazy stuff... and was playing in the hospital while my ex was recovering from transplant surgery... couple of young boys came in... I heard the recognizable "chime" of N-DS firing up a Pokemon game, lit me right up! I hooked our machines up via the wired and wireless couplers I had, and I traded my top characters to the boys machines, gave em all away... figured I could start over... and then I got hooked on something else... but the game cartridges are still in the coffee table drawer, if I ever get the itch again!
Please let us know when they come ..& show us pictures ..Too bad you couldnt deliver them to yourself ? Do you have to pick them up at the post office ?
I had them shipped to the general mail facility as the shipping address, so they could not be further delivered. I picked them up myself this morning. they should have been in no later than 7:30, and I waited and waited... they finally arrived at 9:10... I have pics, will post in the next message

I love pickled foods myself... gotta say that fermenting feed for the gang was way too easy, and not one of them turned their beak away to the FF this morning! rather like I brought out a Sunday roast with all the trimmings! the feed swelled to at least twice the original size, no waste... and I feel good about the fact that I got stuck with a bag of "mash" bc the store was out of crumbles and pellets and the mash was so easily wasted... not anymore!!! Once you have at least a quart bottle of UP/ACV with Mother, you can add a glug to the regular stuff and let it sit, it becomes the good stuff... these bottles can be split off again and again, so one small bottle can last virtually forever!
