Yum!

Hi Gramma Chick - I think it's great that lots of people use materials they have around the place. Waste not, want not (and spend less)! Thanks for your advice on coop placement in favor of being closer to the house. Still mulling over these two potential spots and my hubby is going to walk around a little more with me later today. Wish I could combine the two locales' selling points, as each has benefits...but neither is perfect.

Hi , I would make 2 lists .
Pros & cons of each .
The closer location also is good to get electricity to the coop if needed .
Like now I have a heated water dish so they have fresh / non frozen water . And a light in the run for me if I want it .
I sometimes am in the run after dark ..settling them in , gathering eggs , giving them some food for the morning .
I dont let my chickens out to range until noonish ..they get up earlier than I do ..so they have food last thing at night/ 1st thing in the morning before I let them out .
Also most of them have laid their eggs in their nesting boxes by then .

It's wonderful to pass an appreciation and respect for animals on to our kids. Sounds like a sweet little parade down to the barn.

It was alot of fun. My hearts skips a beat when I see those 2 munchkins having such a good time. Moving out here was the best decision we have ever made. Chicken girls on parade!!!

Amy,
You still have those Silkie boys? How are they looking? I need another nice breeding roo.

The cockerels that I have are nice, but the wings are just not what I had hoped.

Morning all! Everything froze overnight so I am glad I spent all that time and energy shoveling paths, etc yesterday cause it would not be happening today! I have to say, Rancher, that our birds are doing much better on the 21 % egg producer from agway. They look much better and are laying well for not having supplemental lighting. My older hens looked horrible after a hard molt and mite problem but after taking care of that and switching them to the higher protein feed, they look fabulous! Finally starting to lay again after 2 months of nothing as well. They are finally putting some weight back on, which is good because they are going to camp crock pot in the spring.

Newest batch of lovies. A partridge popped out of my Blue and Splash pen....nutty.
My boy is getting big!

Sooooo cute!!! I think I'm going to have to get a splash to add to my flock sometime soon. I love the coloring.

Stony, my Ameracauna roo may look like half of your picture soon, if my friend can assist me in the process. Have asked a great many people if they want to adopt, no takers.

pharmchickmom: We have been using Blue Seal and find they have made
negative changes. Planning to go to an Agway and try the 21 % protein. Do
we just ask for Chicken Feed 21%? Thanks Aria

I was told that because of the drought, some feeds did not have the content they normally have. If the milling doesn't take that into account, the quality of the feed could be lower than last/preivious years. This probably is not as much of a concern for brand name feeds.
