My husband spent the entire day with her yesterday tho and said his goodbyes. He's just relieved she doesn't have to suffer anymore. She is now in heaven playing cards with her twin sister. Again thank you everyone.

there are no words.

Thx for the reply, Stony. I'm kind of catching on to some of these points.

Safety and health threats can really drive you batty. I am very familiar with my dogs' and horse's appearance, and check them over for potential issues, so I'm sure this will be necessary with my birds, hence your "monitor" comment.

Hi ChickPrincess,

Do you worm your flock on a routine basis, or is this something you do after symptoms appear? Thx.

TOB
by monitor, I really mean observing them. You will get so used to your chickens normal behavior that anything out of place will jump right out at you.

In over 9 year I have never wormed once. Never saw a worm in droppings. Here is the thing. Everything, even you and I have a healthy balance of worms inour systems. Once you start " just in case" worming" you will always need to worm. Give your birds enough space, use a good healthy deep litter in the coops and keep runs if you have them clean and you will probably never have a worm. I have not. I should say, never have an unhealthy balance of worms.
Feed your birds pumpkin seeds or whole pumpkins, winter squashes. Natures dewormers. That is what I do. In season.

Made two loaves of banana bread yesterday 1 1/2 are gone. takes 2+ bananas per loaf. And a little run for taste.

Oh yeah! We love hard sauce, usually double it!

the local paper had a recipe thing for Irish recipes made with booze. They noted they didn't get any with Irish Whiskey. Well it happened I had taken out a a book from the library on Irish country cooking and there were a couple of recipes that used Irish Whiskey.

One for Ham with Irish Whiskey sauce.

You can always tell and Irishman but you can't tell him much.

I'm off to the barn to feed horses then to the coop to feed chickens. Unfortunately everyone has to stay locked up today because we won't be home. My husbands gramma isn't expected to make it through the day so we will be over there with her. She has been battling cancer for 2 years and she said she is done fighting

It's gonna be a rough few days. I'm just glad she won't have to suffer much longer.

Prayers for your husband's grandmother and for all of you.

Stony Dont you use Apple Cider Vinegar in your water too ? Which is supposed to also make their digestive un-hospitable for worms ..
I have also heard of using Cayenne Pepper in their food ..It does not bother the chicken s ( no heat sensors ?) Kills the worms ...( worms have heat sensors ? ) Lol

I was thinking of what you said about the crows ..eating with the chickens
Do suppose the hawks just think they are chickens ? Looks like a chicken ..acts like a chicken ..Must be a chicken ...LOL
