NY chicken lover!!!!

Blzzrdqueen - checked out your live cam (which by the way is very cool! Thanks for sharing your first hatch experience w/us) this morning. That little chick is so cute! You must be so excited!

I think my silkies are a little confused on what type of bird they are. They duck down and run around the brooder like road runners. Funny to watch the goofy looking things do it. Only down side is they scare the other birds I'm trying to hand feed. I think the one silkie hates me won't come by me at all only had it eat out of hand one time, the same with my wife's bantam.

You ARE aware that Silkies are NOT real chickens?? They are another species altogether but they're called chickens because they were THOUGHT to be chickens when first discovered.

Moon ..... Luna the blue Orpington!

Oh and I couldn't take another chick if they were giving them away. Almost tempted with KC ducks half price, but no my common sense kicked in.

THIS BLASTED SNOW!!!! I HATE IT!!!

Eggs pipping on day 20. CR, BM, and an EE. usually it's the EE's and Dels that start first. But I did run the humidity lower this time round. Hoping to get a better hatch. Not that I need chicks.

I am thrilled about the bargain I got today. reading of  you guys chatting about bargain chicks at TS..... The other day i was at TS buying supplies....They had Dark Brahmas in one of the tubs for $1.99. I really love those birds, i have other Brahmas but darks are my favorite.  I have had the bators running for months now and have hatched all that i put in except the expensive Dark Crahma eggs bought from BYC auction as well as Ebay. Don't know why but have had very little success with them hatching.  Back to my bargain.......while i was there the other day i mentioned to the sales guy that if they marked them down to move them out he should call me and I left my name and #..... My inspiration to do this was the conversations that I have read on this thread  about marked down chicks at TS. Today i got a call, they were marked them down to $.75, he said there was about two doz. there, so i said i was on my way.  I got there to find that they were  down to 14, there was a young family there who said i was lucky because they were going to buy some but the guy was holding them for me.... I  asked how many they wanted, only two they said, i said your welcome to buy two and i will take the rest, so I got 12 nice healthy chicks for $9.00.....   Dark Brahmas look like little chipmunks scurrying around.      I AM HAPPY

Congrats always nice getting bargains.

I think the air cell in my eggs are a little too big and it's only day 9...should I raise the humidity? I've been trying the dry hatch method and my humidity generally runs between 30 and 35% the air cells look closer to how they should on day 14.
Also, the 11 eggs I got from a lady at work were not fertile...I should probably let her know that her rooster is not doing his ahem "job"

The good news is the 13 of my own eggs that got put into the bator are all fertile and growing, a few even had some movement! I think this means extra treats for Ethan tonight.

Oh sure blame the male. Maybe if her females wasn't so high strung they might get some. Or her hens could have genetic disorders and not adding they're chroma zones. Or they live with silkies and the mars dust from the silkies made all the chickens sterile. That roo could be doing all he can and it might not even be his fault. Poor roo getting judged by people who don't even know him. Lol. Sorry bored so am amusing myself.
