NY chicken lover!!!!

AQHA, Congrats on the first chick! Yay!!!

Love this pic! I love large dogs also, but will never own another one. The poops are bigger than my dog. We have a 15 pound ankle biter. I dare anyone to try to run past him uninvited.

Same here. 2 Great Danes, but nobodys getting past my Chihuahua without a fight. The big boys take their cues from him!

Eeeeee......I LOVE HIM!?!?! You guys think its a Roo!?!?! "]Have a couple of pics of my county boy chicks (that does sound weird!!). Will take better ones later - had to get a few pics of ones that I thought were roos for nooknook, who wants a baby cochin roo. I just thought this one was cute even if it is grainy. :) Planning to get more later when the light is better. Little alien chick check out those lil wattles! [/quote

Yah nook, pretty sure that little one is a roo. He's already got a pink comb and little red wattles at three weeks old. Plus he's slow feathering. Still, want to wait a week more or so to be sure. =)

Here's a group shot of most of the county boy chicks - the little banties ran underneath so there's three or four hiding banties not visible. Everyone was running from the crazy lady with the camera. Not enough feathering yet but in a few weeks we shall see!

Got another piece of electro netting today so finally my 'prisoner' chickens (that could only go out when I was standing around outside ) finally get a decent outside run. They haven't flown out YET, but we shall see. Even my leghorns won't overfly the one in the back (if you look closely you can see chickens waaaay behind these - that's my back two coops and they have 400 feet of electro netting). Love this stuff!!

I'd put them outside if they are fully feathered, but I use an ecoglow so my chicks get used to cooler temps sooner. If you are concerned, keep them inside another week or so, but without the light. Then put outside.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks. I cleaned their brooder a few minutes ago and refilled their water and feed. They were happily chomping away when I shut out the light. Everyone FROZE for about 15 seconds, then, as if on cue, began to eat again. Too funny.
What's an ecoglow?

Ecoglow is by brinsea. It's essentially an electric hen LOL. It uses only 13W, has no fire danger and what I really love is that it allows them normal sleep cycles so when you finally put them out in the coop they don't freak out in the dark. You can see it in this pic here:

One thing you notice is that chicks really don't need as much heat as we think - my chicks after about 3 days rarely ran under the ecoglow except at night to sleep.. and that's in a 60 degree house (Hey, I'm a cheapskate lol).

That's awful for you & your neighbors. Several years ago that was happening uo here where I live. The culprits skipped the houses with dogs in them..................... so I was safe. On a lighter note, I can lend you my "protection "

This is my girl, I also have her half brother. My 4-legged kids just love kids ( says alot.... because I don't have children ! ) They are a calm & level headed breed, but also are a strong ( physically & mentally ) breed that have to be properly socialized and trained.

Ankle biters are cool little dogs. Sometimes I think the smaller the dog the bigger the attitude

But, I wouldn't mess with them
Thanks stony. Guess I will have to wait and see what happens. They are all going on a year old now so its just weird that we are getting these eggs. At least its not interfering with my egg customers needs.

Love the rottie pic and a great deterent they are. My lab always looked and sounded fierce but if someone had actually broken into our house, I believe he would have helped them carry stuff out for a pet and a biscuit!

Love this thread as well. Only one I read. Doesnt matter what is said and shared, its just nice to have likeminded people to talk to.

Sorry about your car rancher. Oh---I finished the blanket and started a sweater. Good hobby to have.
My kids love people, silly wiggle butts that they are. But, I do have to say they are a excellent deterrent to the "bad guys "

I've only had chicks twice now and both times I didn't keep the heat on them nearly as long as people told me I should. Once I noticed they weren't hanging out under as much I move it further and further away until I stop using it completely. My house stays in the 65ish range.

Little alien banty chick:

check out those lil wattles!

He is looking identical to his older brother.

They are all three weeks old. Here's a grainy pic of one I think is a female just based on feathering differences:

And she looks like her older sister. They are both buff barred out of Peanut Butter and Honey!

Here is Peanut Butter-
