Isn't there a Country Max on the same road as TS in East Syracuse? Is this the same one? Maybe I'm thinking of a different store. I went there once last summer.

Across the street from the red apple gas station on 290, by Freemont Road. It's in a plaza with a Dollar General, ARC of Onondaga and there is a Tim Hortons in the parking lot.

I buy the noble shavings for my horse, in bulk so I'm just going to use them for the chickens too.

As for being on sale they just had a sale on them, I get mine straight from Noble themselves so it's cheaper. Actually the whole barn puts in an order and they deliver about 100 or so bags to us at the barn. Very nice guys at Noble.

Thanks Breella, but I am embarrassed to say I still don't know where that is! I live out in God's country by Otisco Lake...

sounds like silliness to me. People like to put human emotion and reasoning onto animals. We are not built the same. Weasels are killing machines. I HIGHLY doubt a dead rotting weasel hanging on a fence will do anything but stink

With all this negative talk of shipping experiences going on (sorry to hear about the $180 worth of birds. Ouch) I thought I would mention a very positive experience. I received an email from Murray McMurray hatchery Sunday morning at 5am saying my chicks had shipped, and at 9am received a call from the Albany postal service place that my chicks were there and they thought I might like to pick them up instead of waiting for them to get sent to my local post office all 18 arrived healthy and are little balls of energy right now!

81N to 690E to Bridge St exit. Or if you're like me and avoid the city, 81 to 481 to 690 W to exit 17 I believe it is? I'm out that way at least once or twice a week, if you ever need anything let me know, I can pick it up for ya! I've been using my local feed store though, JJ Feeds, off of route 20. I only head out to TS is I need something last minute on a Sunday and the feed store isn't open. I'll be checking out Country Max this summer for some flowers, I do remember them having a decent garden section last summer.

3ft wide, 8ft long and 6ft tall coop big enough for 15ish chickens? Should I make it bigger? I don't want to use the whole shed (yet) but I don't know how much room I should have.

Going by what I keep reading and using the 4 square feet rule that wouldn't be enough. That would be 3*8=24 square feet= 6 birds. Then again size of bird temperament and how much free time will play a role in min space you can use. Someone in the coop forms brought up "height don't matter" due to the fact they really aint going to set a scratching floor/roosting rotation. But I also talked to some people around me at ts and work who say they never do 4 square feet they cram what they can cram. They look at me like i'm crazy when I say i'm going to do like a 8x8 for 11 birds. Also had a guy at ts say his roo never goes in the coop always tree all year round other roo stays in coop guess he's the ladies man. So i'm not as worried for drafts as I was. I don't plan on big holes but before I was set up to make sure no drafts cept vents at all cost lol.

There have been a lot listed on craigs list lately.....up near Lockport. A drive for you but might be cheaper than shipping & you could see the birds before purchasing them.

I saw some of those I've been jumping around on craigslist since I was up in Rochester. I've been doing searches for pallets, chickens, chick, easter, shed, window, coop. Pretty much the basic stuff I may need/want. I need to get coop built in next week or two even if I have to say screw it and attack home depot with plastic. I didn't think chicks could really be as dusty as people said but shoot I will never have the brooder in my living room again.

only reason I could think of would be territorial and may stay away if they smell another one. Not sure if they mark or spray guess I could google it in a few and see what I can find. I know we use to put our hair in baggies with holes and sometimes spread it around the garden to try and keep animals away alittle bit. Not sure if it really helped or not it was at my grandparents house and I was little then.


BTW we are all home daughter blew the record for recovery time 10 days after heart surgery she is home. Woot!Woot! or should I say Cluck!Cluck! ?

Any idea where they are located for they're hatchery or do they have them all over? I was thinking of ordering from them if any where but I don't want my little chickies coming from CA to NY. I see a mailing address in iowa but they cant just ship from there do they?

I made a coop out of cattle fencing & it was pretty simple to make. A lot of room for my 4 hens and easy to clean. And portable if I needed to move it.
