NY chicken lover!!!!

TOB I may have missed a post with the reason why you wouldn't just use some chicken wire along the rafters to keep the hens down and the ventilation still as good as no ceiling? Just was my first thought of how I'd do it.

I was quite pleased last night that that my lonely penguin chick decided to cuddle with her stuffed animal. I was actually able to get a decent amount of sleep! When I checked this morning she actually had some food in her crop. Yay!
I have some 8-9 week chicks outside now with the older chickens, my dachshund Eleanor thinks she is their mommy. LOL. Whenever they get too far from the coop she will herd them back. Its adorable! She sits outside most of the day just watching them. You can tell she's had babies before that's for sure. I'm just glad all of our dogs and chickens get along so well!
Put a feather duster in with her. She can cuddle up to it like she would a hen

So Mderby came today and brought me three bags of manure and left with 4 BM chicks, a blue orp pullet and Del roo.  I could tell she didn't really want to take the rooster.

I tell you they are so nice.  He was the only one in the pool that came near when I stuck my hand in.  So easy to catch.

BUT  while I was down 6  the EE broody in the coop was mothering 5 more BM chicks.  I was worried she might not be a good Momma.  It was so cold.  She did have another egg but I took it and tossed it, after which she came out of the nest box to teach them to eat and drink.

Thanks Rancher. The chicks are adorable of course. They are not socializing with my little one yet but I'm sure they will soon enough. Of course I can't say no to a roo, especially since you're nice enough to give me chicks.

Went out to Camillus today, if anyone is looking for wood scraps the residents on Kasson Rd have a lot out by their curbs that imagine the garbage people will be picking up soon.

Thinking about adding another another hen or two to my two buff orpingtons. I don't want any more chicks, pullets if anything. I'd like to find an egg layer other than brown. I love my neighbors chickens. She's got a nice variety of hens. I'll have to look up the breeds and post them to see if anyone has any. These two need some company.

The babies had their first photo shoot!

Barred rock and brahmas! If anyone has any or knows where I can find a pair let me know...if I have to get chicks it would help if they were around the same age as my silkies (3-4wks) so I could raise them in the brooder with them.

KateBean- cute chicks!!!

Wooohoooo!! I got 7 golden comet chicks today at country max. They are resting nicely in their new brooder box with fresh food and nice cool water.
YAY! Congrats on finding the chicks, and the type you planned to get in the first place! YAY! I LOVED having my chicks in the house with their little squeaks and tweets. I may start raising chicks for people just so I can keep having those chirps in my house.

That is your problem use a shiny bakeing sheet and see how fast they come to you. mine love to peck shiny stuff so maybe they will all just jump on and start pecking as you carry it back inside and put it in the oven.

We went to TSC Vestal today and everything was gone. No chicks, no ducks, not even any bins. We needed more like another hole in the head, but I would have been happy to have gotten more.

Well, I've got my first broody this year! A buff orp. This will be her first time, so we'll see how she does. I've ordered some salmon faverolles eggs for her to have if she's serious, since I love the breed and it'll be very easy for me to ID and sell the boys early on. I got NAILED when I reached in to take eggs - I didn't notice she was in there at first. Yowch!

It is awesome they are already eating out of our hands and running and jumping into our hands to be held.
