NY chicken lover!!!!

Congrats I thought of ducks but I just thought they would fly away and never come back lol. Never read much on them but I told wife what happens when they fly south and then we don't have no more ducks. That stopped the cute duck buying easly.

Ah come on man you can find a way to milk it also so you can make some cheese to barter with maybe some goat butter??

That is an idea but I'm hoping to get a part time job and with my volunteer work it might be to much. Chickens in with the right set up are not a great deal of work. I think the thing that takes the longest is cleaning the coop. I usually try to do it once a month. If you don't over crowd them that is.

that is so cool.  I'd read about a guy in NYC who made a coop out of a dresser he got off the curb.

the drawers would be good for storing extra things like waterers and feeders.

I thought so!! I have a cabinet that has two doors on the bottom and a shallow drawer on top. All I would have to do make windows on the doors, attach some wire mesh and add a lock!

It's been an emotional week so far....first I think I may have murdered developing eggs, and this morning my 3 day old Mottled Houdan chick died unexpectedly. Can developing eggs survive at room temps for several hours and still successfully hatch?? I feel Sooo bad....ignorant newbie!!!
I am sorry about your chick. Unfortunately these things happen. I take a couple days to get over set backs.

You might as well carry on and hope for the best. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

People use goats to clear land, they eat all the scrubby stuff, and probably fertilize a bit too! Maybe I should get a herd of goats and a portable yurt then I could bring the goats all over my land and get it cleared, and I could camp out to keep the coyotes away.

they also need to be fenced in and that is quite a bit of work. I've nearly three acres. Most is wooded and I'd prefer not to see my neighbors back yards. I expect to plant more trees. Evergreens. I'm too old for such things. Would to God we had own this property years ago when the kids were younger.

Morning All,
So I've been searching for a new rabbit hutch because the one my little guy is in is falling apart. A friend of mine told me to search "Rabbit hutch Dresser" on Pinterest to see all the cages that have been made out of old furniture and dressers and it was neat to see the ideas that people came up with. Well I decided to seach "Chicken Coop Dresser" and found this...

Now wouldn't that make a cute little brooder! I think I'm going to transform one of my pieces into this. I really like it.
I really love that. I think I'm going to go through some old furniture and try to find somehting I can use. Maybe even turning it onto it's side if you don't need all the storage would be good...hmmm I wish I had more time.

Lol wife keeps aging she wants some so she don't have to cut the grass even though I'm not aloud to cut the grass. It's her get away from kids time.

Hello all. Western NY here. West of Rochester half an hour. I am doing chickens(meat) for the first time this year, can't wait. I also want to do turkeys but they are so expensive. Does anyone have any extras to sell? Also thinking about ducks. Thanks!

Hi and welcome. There is a buy sell trade part in the forums might help with turkeys. I think you have a few up by you/ Syracuse area. I'm south east an hour south of buffalo.

Welcome ChicknGuy!

Just moved the chicks outside again into the run while the adults are free ranging, what's the first thing they do? Decide to take a dust bath in the food! Ugh, looks like I need to get a tray of sand to put in there!
