NY chicken lover!!!!

Good morning all. I gave away 11 dozen eggs yesterday! I'm pretty excited

I have decided after seeing all the pics that I must have some of Country boys eggs! LOL. I just need a broody hen first. If any one has one they want to get rid of or let me borrow let me know

LOL, as others have said, this is unlikely to work. I'd LOVE to sell off a few of my broodies, but I doubt they'd still be broody in their new homes. :)

Unfortunately there is more to broody hens than them being broody.  If you were to find a hen that is broody, she would most likely break by the time you got her home.  At least I think so.

I know, I was trying to be funny that's why I added the winky face at the end ;) if only it were that easy...

Sorry about your little one, glad you have the others left and doing well though.

Your pool idea sounds neat!

My little chick didn't make it thru the night.

I thought for sure there was a chance he would make it after seeing his head was no longer on the ground yesterday afternoon. He was just looking so lifeless though. The other's are still in the shed alive and well. So at least I have those. Just still upset about this little guy. He definitely seemed like the most outgoing one for being the smallest in size. I just hope out of these 4 left I end up with at least 1 hen!!!

Thanks. Just got back from the feed store and picked up some "sav-a-chick" to give the others just to be on the safe side. Can't hurt. Just wish I was able to recognize the problem earlier with the small chick and get to the store to see if something would have helped it.

Just cleaned out the coops again! I'll be moving the newbies in with the Orps and having them stay in the bigger coop and the two silkies by themselves in the smaller one. Think I'm going to leave Pearl cooped up with Dunan for a while. I've been giving the ladies a break from being chased down by him and Pearl always seems to be left behind wandering the yard by herself. So until I get two more hens to hang out with her she'll be cooped up safe and sound.

My apple crates never came this weekend. I called and they said they got really busy with stuff so they didn't have a chance. Which stinks cuz my father inlaw was going to help get me started with what I wanted to do, so I guess I'm on my own now. They said someone will be by today at 5 to drop one or two off depending on how many he can fit on his truck. My husband will be around Friday. I'm just impatient. ;-) so I'm sure I'll start doing something with them tomorrow.

Yah, and I switched them to the giant ecoglow 50 just for the next few nights since a few of the boys don't have full feathering yet -- the ecoglow 50 is huge and leaves lots of room for them to get up there. :p Remember, here is MY alien roo (the one on the ecoglow) only 8 days ago..
Oh my goodness! What kind of chick is that? That picture is seriously the cutest thing I've ever seen! That is a photo contest pic! Cute! Cute! Cute!

From what I understand.

With the Cuckoo Marans (I had some) the males are lighter than the females.

I had both the Marans and Dominiques in my first order of hatchery.   The combs will tell them appart.  I'd go with the spots on the head and not the feet.  Leg color changes as they grow.

I would try to determine the breed you got in "special".  What were the possibilities?    Since BR was not one we can safely rule that breed out.

I still think it's a CM roo.  Based on , comb, lightness of color and spot on the head.  Please let us know.  We always get these questions but no one ever comes back to give us the answer.  Which is why I usually don't even offer a guess.

There's little to no way of knowing or sure...I went thru each video of each exotic breed offered and broke it down to Dominique or CCManans....I guess time will tell....oh and I will keep ya posted. May end up needing to re-home a couple Roos!! I claimed two mystery Chix this season, the other was a Golden Laced Polish (we think). Any guesses??
