NY chicken lover!!!!

This is the bunny I see on occasion. I think there may be two cuz there is one that lives in or near our garage. The chickens spied him along the house and it ran into the garage so I don't know. I do see bigger rabbits in the yard at night too.

I have seen him peeking out from under his home. I'm having reservations on tearing it apart to clean it up. It's been there for a long time.

we have a couple of wild rabbits that hang with the chickens 1st thing in the morning and at the end of the day. One morning I walk up and scare a rabbit eating in a semi circle with about 20 Sumatra's. He (or she) was just eating right along side the chicknens

I wouldn't mind if it was a roo IF I didn't already have 2 BCM Roos. I don't have enough hens for more lol

I do not have what I can call an Ameraucana since my current chicks are from and EE and an Lav. Amer roo. However I have a Blue chick that I think will be a roo. I have an EE that clearly has blue in her. You can have him for free. I also have two Del roo chicks.

Oh it is so beautiful!!

Afternoon all. Got my car back and wow what a difference. So much better. Ironically another camry came in the day after mine with the same problem. In the span of a week, 3 of us showed up with broken springs, all camrys. Just an fyi in case you have one.

Not much rain today so I put the tots outside to play. The terrorists are locked up because my neighbor just finished fixing his lawn and put down grass seed. I would like to keep the good neighborly feelings going so the terrorists will remain locked up or under security guard until his grass has grown. I did give them some scrambled eggs (since I am currently overrun with them) and boy did they enjoy that. The tots and the divas also enjoyed some. My silkies arent partial to them so they didnt get any. The good news is that both girls in legolas pen are laying. I am hoping that legolas is doing his job and that one or both of them go broody and hatch some babies. I am not hatching any more in the house.

May have found a buyer for the silkie tots. She and another person bought silkies off a lady at a tailgate sale for their children and both died that night. Sounds like they had cocci and there was bloody poop. I feel bad for the kids and upset that someone would knowingly sell sick birds. Blamed the blood on the feathers as being from a cut on her finger. Anyways, I offered my tots to her and we had a very pleasant conversation about our chickens for almost an hour. Non chicken people would never understand this but I know you guys would. I dont think I will be going to any tailgate sales, at least not buying anything.

Jlaw--looks like you have some red sexlinks, silkie crosses and other mutts. And a bad case of morehens disease! Glad to see you are enjoying them.

Rancher--is that a fricassing rabbit? Bugs was.

Time to go make dinner. I think another 12 egg pound cake should help with the excess eggs I have right now! lol

I wish I had known someone needed an Ameracauna Roo. I had one separated in my garage, and got a friend to start a flock with him and two of my original RIR girls. I felt a little guilty twisting her arm so hard, but last heard all was well, and the trio were living in a converted camper on a flower farm. I kinda wish she would have taken me too.

Lol it's not even hens i'm getting straight run bantams and just going to see if i can rehome roos or freeze them. i'm an addict i admit it i use to play video games non stop and drink a lot but i've stoped both but now i'm on a chicken frenzy. At least this is family orianted and i'm at my max chicks for my size coop.

Right about now wife should be in ransomville ny picking up my last three chicks. I desided she should go today without me while i'm at work so we dont have to go mothers day and get them. I had to clean the other brooder out so i could watch them some before putting inwith my banties then moveing all banties out to the coop in a few weeks. How long would ya'll recomend before mixing my banties together. Her's was on medicated feed i just use norm start/grower.

I swear my bantams that i have are wierd they dust bath in the bedding instead of the sand box i have in my brooder. The again i have de on beding where i dindt have it when my other birds was inside.

I thought of makeing a sand dusting box for inside the coop. Am i crazy? I figured they may light it and they could eat the sand when they want as grit. I'm just worried they may try to nest in the box.

well back to work.

I don't worry about my garden because it's fenced in. Plus there is plenty around for the rabbits to eat without messing with my garden.

Pharm - I don't know anything about eating rabbits so for right now it's ok.

As for tailgate stuff. I personally don't buy from such places. 1. cuz I have more chickens than I need and B. cuz I don't want to bring something home.

A friend stopped by for some chicken manure so it gave me an excuse to clean one side of the coop. I was very happy it was nice and dry. I hadn't planned on it, but I'm glad it's done. I'll let it air out and then add new chips.

Jlaw - I don't waste my time with sand boxes and all that. It's to much work and money. Also they dust as you've found out in the shavings. That is why I toss some DE in the mix. It was easy to lift the buckets for my friend because they were light. It did smell of ammonia though, so it was a good thing to clean today.

Already discovered the meaning of this after trying to catch my pullets to put them outside yesterday.

I have read that Lavender is supposed to help with mosquitoes. My sister is decorating with lavender plants for her (outdoor) wedding for that purpose. I'm not sure about black flies or anything else.

Also, I found this on craigslist this morning if anyone is interested. Finally an animal swap close to me!

I like to use lotions that have a mint-based scent. I notice this helps a lot, especially if applied generously. It's not a cure-all for insects, but up in Canada, it's what I do before I take a walk with bare legs or arms.

ok thanks rancher, i think i will keep them out. gotta follow "k.i.s.s." "keep it simple stupid". something i'm really not doing i guess. putting too much thought and time into something that should have been faster/easier than it has been.

dang pharm a 12 egg pound cake i may have to look that up see what they wife can do with that. She is worried we will have too many eggs and not able to sell them all. People at work already saying just bring them in for free. I mean yeah maybe a few but before i even get my hens laying and trying to sell some and i never mentioned a price just seemed kinda rude. Oh well what can ya do people always want stuff for free i know i do lol.

DW has the last 3 chicks at the house now. She likes them and didn't sound mad at all for just getting home driveing like 2.5 hours i think it was with 2 kids in the van. Gotta love her.
