This is Sonew on BYC, correct?
yes

I could maybe host a small one at our "new" house in East Nassau. We are fixing it up to be a rental and there is PLENTY of room outside and a lot of parking. I wouldn't have to worry about bio security since I don't have any animals on that property. It's a fairly large flat area with a few out buildings...

*points to location* I'd like that, purely for self-centered reasons.

Ok.... So I'm Strongly considering hosting the Picnic this year for maybe the end of June( if that would be enough time for others to prep) but I have some concerns I wanted to address.

First off I think I remember reading that people bring birds/ animals to the picnic, what are the risks to my flock of having strange birds and flock shoes/boots on my property?? Another question is what beyond providing a location and a potty is my responsibility as a hostess?? If I do commit I wanna make sure my birds aren't put at risk and I wanna make sure I do my part in making it Great!?! Any input and or feedback would be Greatly Appreciated!?!?
This I will address.

I personally brought hatching eggs and three chicks that was it. If the area you have set for the brought birds is far enough away from your flock they should be okay. At Tabs we all kept our birds in cages for boxes that we brought. None were put near Tabs and Travis's birds.

I really doubt the potty thing is an issue. We men can just go out behind the barn if that's okay. It never occurred to me to put in an Outhouse.

DW and I brought enough burgers for twice as many people as were there. Plus I think DW made a Pasta salad. I'm sure if you host we can get a list going of who will bring what.

Ouch Are you okay ? Did Ray know you fell ?
I got a Boo Boo today too ..a chick scratch right across the right side of my face on my cheek ..it is huge want to see ?
She wanted to stay on my shoulder ..I was trying to get her down with one hand so I could hold on to her ..the other chick was in my other hand ...
She didnt mean to scratch me it just sort of happened

Big chicks ? Sounds like Roos to me ..
I hope you put some peroxide on that right away and have had a tetanus shot. Anyone who has chickens and works in the country setting should have this shot automatic.

Natalie Miller is having one June 1st. She posted in Chicken friends on Facebook..

Facebook Natalie Miller can not be displayed. Who is Natalie Miller and why is she not on this thread? Are you suggesting we combine the "Picnic" with your chickenstock? What would be the difference? Will you be having a cook out? Are you expecting people not on the NY Chickens lovers thread?

I hadn't realized there was competition to having a picnic. Or am I misunderstanding something?

I'm not looking to sell or buy anything. I've plenty of chickens and a whole boat load of "stuff".

I buy my soap from the woman at the NYS Fair. Enough for the whole year. We have to vendors at the Farmers Market and they're soap isn't as good imo.

Hmmmm.... How do I get around the bio security issue if my birds free range the whole yard???? I can't very well enforce every person to disinfect or remove their shoes upon entering my yard??? Perhaps my arrangement isn't ideal for this type of gathering. I'm located in Ballston Spa.
Ahh well.... I read further down a couple people have something planned already.... I suppose ill dig up more details and see how far away it is from me....Feathers or anyone else locally located to me, perhaps we can plan an afternoon visit on a smaller scale.
enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

If you could keep the penned up for a few hours, would that work?

I just posted this because she was an active poster here and I saw she was hosting one June 1st. Just putting the info out there. I'm not connected to her or anyone else's picnic..
