NY chicken lover!!!!

she was born Jan 1, so 5.5 months or so. Pretty sure it was her first egg -- and it was itty bitty at that. No clue what happened there. I have only had one other minor prolapse and that one recovered. not sure if the other hens had pecked at it - NN might be more prone to that sort of thing with a bare rear. Going to try and hatch more replacement NN's soon with luck.
Sorry about your NN, it sucks when they die...let alone mysteriously. I have a hen that had a very minor prolapse..it went back in itself within 24 hours. I'm pretty sure it was her first egg as well..

Just went out to open up a new bag of flock raiser and it had little white mites crawling all over the bag

I'm assuming they are grain mites? They are tiny and white, almost looked like dust on the outside of the bag. Ugh...not sure what to do with the feed. I might just feed it to them anyway...

Omg of course there is going to be a frost tonight. I'm new at this and my pumkin and sunflowers are coming up very fast. my beans just sprouted, I got some perennials and a gorgeous tomatoe plant that are beautiful. All my other items are beginning to sprout the lables washed off so I don't remember what I planted where lol. I covered everything but the sunflowers, maybe I should cover them.

I covered my veggies but didn't cover the sunflowers or pumpkins. I figure they will either make it or not and they are so easy to grow that I can just plant some more if they do die from the frost :)

Oh okay thanks that helps and makes me feel better. I hope my sunflowers make it. I'm glad I didn't put my youngers girls out. I usually wait till eight weeks or close to it because of these insane whether patterns. My big girls are all rough and tough now LOL. One I swear doesn't know it's cold it's all about that snow.

Seems I wasted my money on this plant. Bloodroot. It's poisonous and can't risk the chickens eating it. Rhubarb leaves are poisonous too , but so far they haven't eaten much. I've covered the plants with milk crates.

Darn and it is so pretty. They ate my bleeding hearts without dyeing, which is why I didn't buy any.

That is not bloodroot as I know it.
http://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/bloodroot/how-to-grow-bloodroot.htm The leaves are very different as is the flower. You may be able to plant it after all.

Im here, still alive. After 2 days in NYC visiting my mom my coop is a filthy mess. Lots of cleaning to catch up on. I can't wait for the weekend to get some work done on the outside run so they have more space.
