NY chicken lover!!!!

I say grow everything and you're sure to get something that succeeds. As for branches and the like, I've even stopped and taken long branches off the side of the road that people cut and put out. Stood there on the side of the road with my clippers and cutters and trimmed off the leaves loaded them in my car and then cleaned up the mess piling it back on the side of the road. I don't think folks mind as long as you don't leave them with a mess to clean up.

Of course you could just cut them at home and put the trimmings in your compost pile.

Yeah that was pretty much what I was thinking. And I always go around and take what I want off of curbs!!! I love it so much cool free stuff.

I don't care why people with dogs fence in their yards. I only wish they did. As Specklehen says. A dog in it's own yard is a pet, a dog in someone else's yard is a predator.

You would a thought my neighbor had learned her lesson when she came looking for her cat and it was dead in my yard. No I didn't kill it, but it was there just the same.
I fenced in my yard to keep my dogs in and out of other peoples yards, But I also engage in a lot of training and work with my dogs everyday Though my one dog I'm having a hard time with focus heel, his heel itself is amazing and his focus work is great but trying to combine the two is a pain in my *** LOL.

Well I finished my silkie coop for my two silkies and my little girl made an amazing recovery so much so she tipped over the dog crate she was quarantined in this was the same chicken that fully collapsed and had labor breathing the other day. Now she's all bad *** so the silkies have their own coop now. As for the babies well the silkies were not having it and our White one would jump on top of them and peck them down so I guess no babies around her no wonder the older babies stopped liking her LOL. I feel like there should be three in that coop though oh well. My Barred Rock likes everything so naturally the babies will go with her. So tomorrow is D-day for the babies they are going in to meet the older babies since they already met our barred rock and do well with her, but they have not met the older babies face to face, I'm adding some extra space hoping that should help and I will use a barrier to block the older babies.

Rancher I would love to take an EE but I can't take them all:( and no Roos! Good luck.

I'm getting excited in my set of (6) older babies there is one with a larger comb and red and another not far behind her, so those two should be laying soon got their nest box all ready yayy me!

Let me preface my below statement with the fact that I love animals, specially dogs. I'd kill that dog. Flat out kill it, and any other nusiance animal that comes into my yard and harms my animals. I grew up in NYC, where when walking my own dog at night, after one episode of nearly being mauled by an off leash dog I started carrying a knife and realized that I would indeed stab someone or their dog that was trying to harm me or mine. Same goes here in my yard, if it's in MY yard it's on MY property and I will defend myself, my family and my pets with any means I can get a hold of.

Check with your local laws, try to get photos of an attack in progress and notify the authorities-- or just make the dog disappear yourself. Also, I'd settle those neighbors with a bill for all the dead chickens.

YUP!!

So I looked at ( candled / flashlighted my eggs . 1 week & 1 day . some look black or dark inside ...approx 1/2 way up ..
That means a baby chick right ?
ones that are just clear are duds right ?

Do you live on the opposite side from me?  I swear we have the same neighbor.  Those people are horrible.  They get animals for "status" or whatever, but never love them.  People suck.

Well, we're both in upstate NY. Maybe we live closer than we know ;)

Pyxis---sounds like the spca needs to be called on these people.  I would also put the dog down.  I would take no chances with the animals or kids.  It sounds like these people are animal hoarders who breed to get money is all.  Worst kind of people.  The animals suffer because of the humans.  My condolences on your losses.  Only we can understand others pain and tears at the loss of our beloved poultry.

Thanks :) The awful thing is, they have chickens too, so I'm sure the dog is tearing those poor birds apart and they just don't care. I think I will call the spca, but sadly in my area they just don't do much. I called them once on a hoarder 'friend' of mine that I've taken in birds from before that he was keeping illegally in tiny cages. He also 'breeds' rabbits and never changes the cages, has tons of intact males that spray, and they constantly run out of water. Did I mention he keeps them all in his bedroom? Along with bunches of reptiles, and breeding colonies rats and mice to feed those reptiles? And a couple sugar gliders and ferrets too, why not? Also two dogs and a bunch of cats. They all live in that one room. Well, they sent untrained police officers instead of people from the humane society who actually know what they're looking for and long story short, he still has them all.

So you are all violating the law?   It breaks my heart when I see a dog chained or tied out.  The other day on the way to the farm it  was pens.   Hardly  a good life for a dog.

Yes, letting our dog roam is illegal, but there's nothing I can really do about it since my parents own the property (and the dog, technically) and are against fencing it. All I can do is be happy that he doesn't go off it (seven acres seem to be enough for him) and that even if he did he wouldn't be killing chickens.

Today was a better day. Got a lot done on the new duck/goose house and spent lots of time playing with my overgrown gosling, which is always fun. Got doused when she was swimming in the pool and started flapping. No signs of the attacking dog, so so far so good on that front. I'm hoping they really are keeping him tied or have him in one of the fenced pastures.

I love all breeds and have different breeds on my property with that said come on my property and see this sweet quiet neighbor who mows others lawns and gives eggs away for free turn into americans most wanted. I completely believe in defending my home. And yes I believe in training I do extensive training work with my dogs one could pass a theropy dog test but that's not what I'm using him for. Regardless though if he went into someone else's yard then I'm at fault no matter if he did nothing. I had a dog get let out on my dogs when I was walking them on a leash and lucky for me it wasn't an attack it was a dominance show down needless to say it was not necessary keep your dog in check. It's like the neighbor who doesn't walk his dog on a leash and lets run up to my dogs, how do you know my dogs are not dog aggressive? So basically what I'm saying is protect yourself, your property and your animals to the fullest!!!!
