Rancher they are adorable they couldn't spoil your dinner unless it got cold while you were admiring those cute little silkies.

Cute photo's and funnies, folks! I wanted to post some, but got home too late from having the kids at the Marcellus Olde Home Days. I hate it, but they love going...

Today I noticed a bright little drop of blood on Helen the Maran's toe. So I caught her and Shane sprayed her toe with Bluekote like a pro. How often do you spray small wounds like that?

Happy weekend, all.

Picking up eggs on Sunday to put under my broody! So excited to try this, will have questions along the way I'm sure. Getting 4 SS, 4 Welsummers, 4 Partridge Rock from Deb in Pompey. Glasshen got SS from her and I had seen her ad on Craigslist. Hopefully the weather is not so god-awful that I can't pick up the eggs.
In this hot, humid weather, how long do the eggs for eating last? Eggs get laid under the broody (and everwhere else) that I collect each night when I get home. Tonight hubby did chores and left two eggs under her before he learned about the hatching eggs. How long is too long under a broody for an eating egg?

This is what I had in my side yard before I left for work this am. A baby bunny out with the girls.

That's awesome.

My BR broody is very strange, and I am her protector. She is a bit peculiar since she got broody and the others are not kind. They were squishing into her box and there was the night that four of her eggs got broken and mostly disappeared. She had a full crop in the morning, so she. May have had a hand in it somehow...it's a mystery. But I moved her to a secure box, and she stays in there with her remaining three eggs, which I candled and they are dark inside and feel heavy. She talks to the eggs. If she needs a break she comes to the door and hops from foot to foot, guess that's one of those universal signs. I let her out and guard her eggs. I've started to lock them in so none of those bad girls can get to them. She zooms around in the yard takes care of everything and heads back to her secure box. When she seems close to being ready to return I unlock it and stand sentry duty. I will have to think of where she can raise the kids, those other hens are just waiting to cause her and the babies trouble. I don't think she is confident enough to protect them.

Boy, am I glad I was born human!

Do you have a dog house? I've been finding some good stuff on craigslist lately maybe you can find something there. I found a free coop the other day for my silkie when she was injured it worked out great, after hours of cleaning it.

Basking in the sun and all I can think of is how on earth will I ever find another front porch view like the one I have :-(

That is beautiful. Maybe you'll find something even better fingers crossed.

Mother and babies are looking great!

I have some white silkies, 3 pullets an several cockerels, that were spoken for, but now because of the hot weather, they don't want to ship them..so I will be bringing them to the show in Syracuse on Sunday for sale. I am selling them because I am going to concentrate on other colors, so the whites have to go.
If anyone is interested, please pm me. They are all out of a very nice cockerel I bought last fall from Catdance Silkies. They are about 3-4 months old so should start laying in the fall. Nice show/breeding quality. Pullets are $25, cockerels $10. Buy all 3 pullets, free cockerel.

Beautiful birds, if I had the money I would so be there LOL.

Photo Friday?!? Have a wonderful and safe weekend everybody!!!

Love the pictures.

Hahahahahahahahahaha so true
