Well I did it, I let the ducks out to free range. Kept the chickens cooped up because I know the first thing they'll do is run over to the duck house to eat their food! Scavengers! Lol

Rancher - that was nice of you to feel bad for the poor little Silkie! lol

There were lots of varieties of tomatoes, and I bought too many too. So, maybe the girls will get Some of the extras, but there shouldn't be to many, since those can go in canning jars.

Do you have a compost pile? Put the peelings and cores and everything on the tray you peeled them on into the compost pile and let the chicks have their choice of the canning leavings. They LOVE the seeds.

They love tomatoes. Last year they would stroll over to the tomato patch and sample those fun red globes. We had a lot of second hand tomatoes on our table. Ssssh, no one knows.

Welcome to all those new to the thread, the lifestyle and those returning to us.

I just did a week on Jury Duty.   I STRONGLY recommend pulling out all the stops to get off a Civil Lawsuit jury.  I have rarely been so very bored in my life and I sat through Tele-training for Day Care for 12 hours every year for 10 years. 

I found one of my newly hatched chicks dead on the floor of the coop today.   I am NOT amused, since it looks like I killed it when I opened the coop door last night, in the dark.  Darn chickens roost in the rafters and loosen the light bulb, so no light when I flicked the switch.   That hen that hatched some of them and I stuffed the rest of under is a LOUSY momma.   I can't see where she has gotten off the nest since they hatched, so they poor babies are wandering out of the nest looking for food and water.   I am going to do an "apple cart turnover" in the coop tomorrow so the new chicks can have a place they can come out from under momma and get food and water, unmolested by others in the coop.

And this rain can stop.  For a while.  I want to get out in the garden and see what came up.

For.chicken. proof lighting Lowe sells a three pack spot light solar unit in the lighting sections
(Where the garden lights are) $29 all we had to do was drill a small hole mouth the solar panel to the roof a put the lights where we wanted them plug the wires into other light and we have light till dusk we put one on the coop. One in the run and one for the turkey/ rabbit run. Whats great about them is they are outdoor spot lights aorta they'd already water proof. Have nice long wires that just. Plug into a hole and well none of our animals have distroyed the yet oh and no light bulbs to on screw and no electric = nor fire either

4 years ago we planted cherry tomatoes ...every time they touched the ground they grew another plant ..they took over the garden & our lawn .


They are still coming up in our garden . Last year they were the morning treat before I let them out ..
This year I am pulling them out & transplanting them in the woods for the chickens ..They have their own garden ...it will be interesting to see if ant mature

Another crummy day, at least it's not pouring. I let the ducks out, they didn't go far, other than when we had to round them up before heading out to the grocery store. I was tempted to just leave them and if I weren't worried about predators I probably would have. But seeing as how their still kinda small and I dont know what hawks are lingering around still, haven't seen one in a while, I decided to get them back in their house. They're out again now and I think the big girls are mad at me. I'll have to let them out soon and keep an eye on how they get along with the ducks. Those BR's can be feisty. My orps don't bother anyone.

I've already set tomatoes, but did by flowers and parsely.

Now about that TSC Farmers Market? I purposefully didn't buy Basil thinking I would get it there but it was canceled by the vendors. TSC paid to have these papers printed up about the Market and then the vendors canceled due to the weather?

Ticked me right off! Not at TSC but at the farmers.

That would be like the vendors at TASTE OF SYRACUSE canceling and without further notice.

I did see some DUCK egg there too. Muscovy so I didn't buy them. KK's maybe.
