That is SO funny, that's what I was thinking while reading too!

Look, I got a broody!

About time, too! Although she did go broody earlier in the year, when there was still snow, and she was so offended when I cleaned out the coop that she decided she was done with that gig and got up after a week, brat. We'll see if she sticks this time.

Well in my day, they came out with more of an upbeat R&B remix that I used to listen to a few years back. I wont even post that video cuz I can't even imagine the comments I'll get LOL

Cute broody Pyxis!!! Hope she finished her job this time for you!

I to am sick of this rain !!! Egg laying has been off for over a week now and I truly believe it has to do with the rain.

Rancher I tell people the same thing.....all this rain is causing my hens to quack :D

Cass- you can use cayenne pepper flakes, pumpkin seeds, or squash seeds to naturally worm. Then you don't have to worry about your eggs. I've used it since I got my hens and have never had worms. I usually give it to them every month or so....more like when I remember, as a preventive & its worked great. :)

Put it this way most shelter hi e someone less than a week and the dog is adoptable. Anyone can sue anyone for anything but the question is will it hold up in court? In your case no. Get the nuetering done asap. have a trainer do an accessment the growling could the two trying to work out who is who in the pecking order so to speak. Remember top hen eats first, dogs can be the same way.

Both my pit-crosses were adopted as older pups -- the first one at 6 months and the 2nd one at 4 months. The younger one actually took longer to train, but both are spectacular dogs.

Just a note on the growling over food. You might want to consider separate food bowls / areas for your dogs. This is what we do. Even though mine are best buds, there are still "head games" that go on during feeding time. Some times my older dog purposely waits 'til the younger one is done. Then he'll casually walk over to his own bowl and then start eating, as if he knows it's killing the younger guy to watch him enjoy a full bowl. Anyway, each dog knows whose dish is whose and there is never any fighting or growling. Something you could start working on with training. Please make sure you don't allow your kids to be too near the new dog while he's eating until he is thoroughly and reliably trained. He's probably used to having to scrabble for every little bit of food and might bite if the kids pat him or crouch down near him while he eats. Even though he's a pup, this is a real possibility.

Kudos to you for trying to give this pup a 2nd chance.

Lastly, with regard to neutering, my vet would not neuter my first dog until he had gained some weight and developed a good immune system, because he was also undernourished and was a little sickly. I think he was neutered when he was around 10 or 11 months. We kept dew claws on our younger dog, and have had little to no trouble with them.

Good luck, jlaw.

Thanks for all the reply's on the dog. We have a crate and we have put him in it he's slowly getting use to it. Some times he goes in willing others I have to lift him in. I give him a training treat when he does it on his own. He is very smart sits paw and fetches a ball. All when he's in the mood though. We are thinking he may have a bladder problem cause he does lots of little pees wife said he even did it while drinking water. So we have to make another vet appointment. I'm going to post an add in the news paper this weekend and after that just let it be and take full ownership if no reply's by the following weekend. We have looked for lost posters and haven't seen any at the stores or vets and I checked craigslist and didn't see any lost ones matching him.

So I got chickens from tab today and I should have bought some hatching eggs. I ordered an incubator Thursday night/ Friday morning. They never said it was shipped all it said was processing so I didn't ask for any eggs. Well guess what's waiting when I got back home? My dang incubator grrr. Now to find some cheap hatching eggs to practice with.

I moved my smaller chick that was in a cage with my bigger chickens in with the chicks I got from tab they are about same size/age so working out good. I tried letting the smaller chick out in the coop and they would pet on it some which wasn't a big deal except when it would run the roo would go and corner it against the wall. poor thing couldn't move he wouldn't peck it so I don't know if he was Trying to stop it or the hens but he sure stays in middle of them all. When I went to get her out of the cage he kept a close eye on me cause she was running from my hand and chirping so I think he was trying to protect it from the other girls.

well off here for a bit later guys and gals. hmm makes me wonder if ladies are always first why do we say "guys and gals" instead of "gals and guys".

I can never keep up with everyone here, just checking in once a day (as is all I've been able to do lately). My 85-year old mom had one cataract removed and a lens implant yesterday. She did well. I take her back in tomorrow for a check-up to check the eye, and also to her cancer specialist (she is a breast cancer survivor). I pray all goes well.

Going from memory on some of the posts I've been reading:

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBER MOUNTAIN DOG (Terry) & ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS JOINED OUR COOP!

This site is a great resource and we have such a friendly group willing to share info! They've helped me out tons.

Breella - your roof covering your run is great. I am planning on putting up some of that corrugated plastic sheeting myself. Just haven't gotten to it yet.

Lynzi - you did a good job teaching your daughter appropriate and gracious manners when receiving a gift.

Don't 2nd guess your mothering instincts and don't apologize for being strict. We need more loving yet firm moms and less of those trying to be their kids' best friends. I don't recognize this world we live in anymore, and part of the reason is lack of good parenting and parental examples.

County Boy - ohhh, that little Frizzle is too stinkin' CUTE!

Can't remember who started using a radio in or near their coop to deter predators, but we do this at the horse barn just to be safe. It's a relatively safe and inexpensive deterrent.

OK - NOW I HAVE A QUESTION. How do you folks keep your runs clean? Not the coop, but the run. Mine is on bare ground with just a little grass. Mostly dirt. Of course right now, that dirt is very wet! Luckily, it's not squishy mud, but nevertheless, it's messy. The chicken poop is very hard to clean from the ground. I try my best to rake it up every couple of days and dispose of it. Do you folks like to put bedding out in the run as well? Just trying to get a good routine down for healthy pen maintenance.

And lastly, a quick update on my chickies. All are well, but still separated. I'm getting down to a time when I will be forced to put them together, as we will start to make long weekend trips away and I can't expect a neighbor to be jockeying them around like I do now. I do try to get everyone rotated outside for fresh air and exercise.
