Ok now my morning has started, lots of strong black coffee!

Morning all. Slogged through the puddled grass to let the beasties out this morning. So much water everywhere. Dh was up half the night manning the pump. I sure do hope we get that sun promised for this afternoon. Found eggs in the silkie runs this morning. Silly girls laid them there instead of inside. My two tater tot girls were roosting with the big girls when I opened the door to let them out. The little boys were on the lower roost. So glad they are getting along now.

My oldest dd moved back in temporarily. Out of the blue her fiance called off the wedding and needs some alone time. She is in pieces. Deposits had been made, etc and so now all that is gone. He is going to have lots of alone time as she has decided to move south to live with her sister in ga and find a job that she can advance in as the one she has now is going nowhere. Its hard to see your children suffer so. Better now though then after a wedding.

Cass--glad your leg is getting better. Be careful out there.

Off to a long shift today. Hoping for a quiet day.

Pharm sorry to hear about your daughters broken heart. I am sure once she gets past this she will be an even stronger person

Glad today looks to be a better day. Yesterday I kept the babies and teens in their shelters, but let the adults out. They meandered around and looked drippy all day. Yuck. They will be ready to roll today.

I hear you Lynzi about keeping the roo separate. I would like to do that too, he is wearing their feathers off, so I WILL buy them saddles today, enough is enough. I tried to make one a while ago, but it was a sewing failure.

Cass, take care. My land is clay too, and while I was away my husband had to care for the flock...he had had knee surgery a month before. When I returned I had a wooden path leading to the coop. He said he didn't want me to slip in the snow, ice and clay. I appreciate it every day. I had hit the ground a few times, usually from wearing crocs in the snow...not a smart choice for several reasons.

They love my hostas am hoping they will sometime develope a taste for slugs etc. perhaps I just have the wrong kind of chickens...

Morning everyone,
Rain has finally stopped here. Not sure when it'll pick it up again but I think I should take advantage and clean out the coops or at least add more shavings to them since I'm off today.

Last day of school today for my son! We're taking him out to lunch this afternoon since we'll all be home. Although my daughter has had stomach issues for a few days now and I'm not sure what's wrong. Think I'll be taking a trip to an urgent care place because I haven't been happy with the kids' pedi here. Really don't want her being her there and get annoyed with whatever they tell me. Maybe the urgent care place can recommend a better pedi for me.

Separated Duncan last night from the girls. He's in the brooder/grow out pen for now.

Pharm - so sorry to hear about your daughter. That is just awful. But may be for the better?? Hope everything works out regardless of what they decide.

Went out today and got ONE egg. I collect in the morning so that one egg was from a full 24 hour period. Poor things either hate the wet or are stressing about the recent dog attacks. So I'm going to take advantage of it and worm them with Eprinex, since some have been looking a little thin and I'm getting suspicious it's worms. I know there's not supposed to be an egg withdrawal, but might as well do it while they're not laying anyway, right?

Miss broody hen, Penny, kicked an egg out of the nest box when she came out for food and broke it. Poor little thing, you could see the embryo. I felt bad for it. So she's down to 13 eggs now and I've rearranged the nest a little to try to avoid a repeat.

I also changed the duck's pool so they're all happy. They still have a hard time getting in though so I'm going to have to fashion stairs of some kind to give them a boost. Lacie goose has no problem, she just throws herself right over the side and in.

Glasshen, it's funny you mention saddles, I just finished forcing a very unamused EE hen into a butterfly saddle since she got grabbed during the dog attack and the roo was preventing feather regrowth. She's now happily bopping around in it. Making it was quite an adventure, I can tell you that!

Pharm, sorry to hear about your daughter. It's an awful situation :(

I bought one from Amazon.com and one from TSC. The one from TSC is exactly like Ranchers with the handle, the one from Amazon doesn't have a handle it just has a little metal thingy at the top where you screw down the washer to adjust the amount of space at the bottom to control how much food comes out. I know TSC has the ones with the handles.

So sorry Pharm :( Your poor daughter..but as you mentioned it's definitally better now than after the wedding. Good for her deciding to move south and find a job she can advance it! Making something good from a bad situation.
