Goooooood Morning!!!

Lynzi - how old was the chick that Duncan mated with ? It may have had something wrong with it or
its bones werent strong enough to hold Duncans weight too .
YES Pics of the new babies Please !
They are all about 13wks old now. Same size as my smallest hen. I'll take pictures later. The one he toppled tho, was the next smallest (after I lost the first out of 5) in line. I'm thinking he snapped its neck by the way he tried to get on top of it. IDK, for it to go that quickly, when it was fine hours earlier in the day, I can only assume Duncans antics were the cause.

Well as you can see it's going to IMPOSSIBLE for me to work this morning! LOL Went out to the pen this morning, it was very quiet, couldn't hear anything so I decided to move Stella over and there it was, this teeny tiny chick!!! I The coloring is beautiful, I'll take better pics later. I didn't want to upset Stella too much. I can tell she was getting kind of worried. But the chick is a blondish/bluish color with this stripe of golden brown down it's back. Now this chick is out of my Splash hen and Duncan. Another reason why I had to move Stella since there was only hatched so far is because I needed to make sure who was who, the one in the small white egg wasn't done hatching yet. Helped it out a bit and placed Stella back over the nest. So now I know which chick came from the black hen. When it dries out I'll grab some pictures of it. Here is another picture to show you how small this chick is compared to Stella. It's smaller than her head!

Exactly.  It's his "courting" mating dance.  If you want fertile egg let him do his dance.

I had a hen that I tried to introduce yesterday in with the big girls and my roodid the same thing but then he was pecking at her and coming at her with the spurs plus all the other hens started after her so I took her back out guess I will try again another time

My newspaper customer who was throwing away all those mason jars a few months ago surprised me again this morning. They were throwing away 31 dozen size egg cartons! I jumped out of the car and grabbed those up. I love getting out before the trash guys on Thursday!

I put new chickens together at night and in the complete dark. My Dels though may be the exception. They're pretty easy going.

Just take her in and set here on the roost. See what happens. You have to understand that they have to reset the pecking order. Give them plenty of space.

Right now my Br's aren't laying due to the BM's coming back and going in the run and eating. The BM's have only grower due to the new chicks, so it could be I need to hang some pellets where the young ones can't get to it.

Certain breeds are more hyper than others. This is why when I read Storey's I decided not to get Leghorns.

That is great! We used to "trash pick" when we lived in the city. We didn't have a lot of money and we used plenty of stuff til we could afford to replace it. Folks keep giving me the 18 size but I don't use them.

Does anyone have any eggs they want hatched? These two broodies are stubborn. I may give them eggs and then just get rid of the chicks. I suppose I could try moving them to another coop or in with the Dels.

I do have plans to put a couple EE's in with the BM's so I can get some Olive eggers.
