NY chicken lover!!!!

About the duck water - I use the black rubber feed tubs like you give horses grain in and pop the ice out morning and afternoon. Carry a bucket of warm water out to refill and take the dish in on occasion to scrub it out good. The coop is way dryer. The water dish is big enough for one duck at a time to get in and flap wings to bathe. I have muscovies and they are polite enough to make sure everyone gets a good drink before they take turns bathing. Their food is in the coop so it doesn't get wet and turn to mush, but nobody has choked so far. They get pellets so there isn't as much waste.

Thats the problem I'm having with mine. I wish they would just go into their coop like the chickens but they don't yet. I'm hoping one day they'll get it. But for now I have to extend the pen and steer  them into it.

Mine do it all by themselves now. I just locked them in for a couple days like I do with chickens. I also put a small light in there after noticing that they had liked to sleep in the light out my windows if I didn't lock them up. That seemed to do it. The light's gone now and they still always go in :)

So incredibly PO'd at hubby tonight. I got a replacement pullet from Tab, put her in the Eglu on Sunday night. Beautiful splash EE from the silver blue Americauna project. She is flighty and can't be caught, so she was to stay in the Eglu. Also for quarantine, but mostly until she settled in a bit and relaxed. Don't expect a lap chicken, but didnt want her running away every time i approached. Hubby apparently thought she should be integrated today. In the middle of the day. While I was at work. And we had plans after work. So he tossed her in the stall with the other kids and left. Watched only long enough that they weren't beating up on her. Came home late to find that the kids put themselves to bed (yay!), but no signs of the EE anywheres. She could easily fly out of the stall. And the Eglu was locked back up so she couldn't even return to her one familiar place. I searched under the coop, in the barn and all around the house with the flashlight, but have little hope of seeing her again. So very very sad and very very mad. And feel bad for losing my replacement chicken that Tab so kindly gave me and I didn't expect.

Lynzi first I love the pics of stella and the babies, second that's great that the ducks went into their coop.

Nutty I hope all goes well with the hatch, and of course everyone wants a puppy as long as you take care of it!!!

Pharm congrats on the babies.

ChickPrincess - Sorry your baby died .
Evening all! I came home tonight and found 5 bouncing baby silkies under eowyn. Adorable! I had to pull her out and clean the pox off her eyes so she could open them and see her babies. She was too cute, calling to them and drinking and eating and showing them where water was. I think she will be a good mommy. I will post pics tomorrow when I get home from work.

Nice duck pics stony!

Lynzi---nice family pic!

Congrats on the new babies

That is why I said I would think about it as I am the one that takes care of the dogs so I decide whether we get another dog. The dogs I have are so spoiled they are the boss and we are the pets LOL

Does anyone Know if Agway has Non Medicated chick feed ?
I had my hubby pick up chick food ...Nothing on the bags says it is medicated ..
However after I opened it it says on the tag Medicated ...Grrrr I dont want to give them Meds they dont need .
I am wondering if they asked him if he wanted Medicated or not ..it seems like they asked me when I bought some ..

Yes, CountryMax carries both medicated and non-medicated Agway brand chick feed. It is probably more common for people to buy the medicated, so unless you specify, that is what you get.
I think last year I switched the babies from medicated to non-med once they got older. This group I have still on med, but am mixing and transitioning to layer pellets now. And will have a new batch of chicklets next week, hopefully.
