NY chicken lover!!!!

I went out to the coop to check for eggs and found another huge egg. Poor Pearl.

Oh another note, for those of us who bought chicks from the Red Sex Link bin at TSC this year:

Does this mean she's going to start laying eggs soon? or has all hope of this being a she flown the coop so to speak.

Is this the same one you posted before questioning if it was a he or a she? Still looks like a she to me.

The flies like wet icky places to lay their eggs. Keeping the rears clean & dry will prevent it. How fast....I think fly eggs can hatch in as little as 2-3 days. Check your hens butt, clean it off & spray with fly spray as a preventative.

This fly spray you're talking about... where can I get it? What is it exactly called? And does it affect the eggs at all if you spray it on their butts?
Several of my hens have constant poopy butts.

Now I'm REALLY confused. Blondie is my BO hen that is broody in the garage, in her own enclosed space with 6 eggs left. She has another week and a half left before hatch and has been doing a great job (first time broody). I have her 6 eggs numbered with Sharpie. I checked on her a little while ago to clean out her poop and there were SEVEN eggs. Yup... she laid an egg. She is still acting broody and sitting on the nest. What is up with this? Can I count on her to continue?

On the fly subject, I bought a vanilla air freshener, one of those tin can deals at the auto parts store. It works pretty well. Not 100%, but severely cuts down on flies in the run.

I white washed for the first time on the new coop. It sticks pretty well, I was really expecting it to flake or rub off easy. It even sticks to a stained/sealed area with no problems. Now I need to cut a human sized door so I can get in and out without removing a wall section every time
