NY chicken lover!!!!

Right but that is not what is happening the one that was reintroduced has decided that even though the other submitted and walked away he wants to keep after the other even to the point that the bully one had himself bleeding from the mouth. Tried separate fenced areas where they could see each other the bully roo decided oh nope was still gonna find a way out and go after other roo. Moved bully roo to new barn which doesn't have any pens yet and put him in solitary by himself. Today put up fence for bully roo to get out of barn bully almost immediately flys over 4ft of fence and goes and flys over fence where other roo is and attacks him. So bully roo is back in solitary confinement gonna try to give him a couple hens and see if maybe that will take his mind off of other roo

Sounds like his new name should be Lunch or Dinner.

Well, a bird I was given by a friend seems to have bumblefoot, so I did the surgery. And I found no plugs, despite the redness and swelling. Plus I'm all paranoid that I'll somehow contract the staph or the chicks that live in the workshop where I did the surgery will get it. And I'm worried that I cut the hen up for no reason since I found no plugs, or that I managed to introduce new bacteria to her foot since a workshop isn't exactly a sterile environment. I did find some little chunks of yellow cheesy stuff, and those are out, but no big plugs like you can see on the 'how to' thread. Oh well, I know I did what I could for her. Maybe I'll try the Tricide Neo approach if her feet still don't heal up.

Anyway, happy Fourth of July! And in better news, Penny had her ten chicks out in the run today, and they were just adorable.

Good luck with the bumblefoot! I had a hen last year with it. Did the surgery... what I could anyway with my limited experience and the tricide neo. It slowly healed and then she was killed in that darn mink attack. Keep it wrapped with the vet wrap. That stuff worked great!

Speaking of vet wrap, i used it tonight for my dd. We were walking through a field in town to go to the fireworks tonight. She had on flipflops and her heel was cut by glass. Very deep and just shy of needing stitches. Hsd it been more sideways rather than deep we would have been at emergency. Thankfully, Canandaigua medics were nesrby and helped her out. It helped too that one of the firemen is a friend of ours. She was a trooper and even insusted on walking back to the car after the fireworks instead of a piggyback ride from her momma. Lol Hopefully it heals well.

Nothing to watch on TV, so here I am.

Cleaned coops today while the weather held out. Stacked some new bales of hay in the yard for chickens to hide under or to find shade.

Moved the blue Ee to the BM coop last night only to find she displaced the BM hen that was in there to sit on the wooden eggs. She's that determined. SO after I pulled her out of the nest box, she ran back to her own coop and displaced the BR hen again. The BR hen is sitting as close to the nest box as she can, like she's got an egg under her.

The plan is to move the EE hen back to the BM coop and give her some eggs of her own. The BM hen got six Del eggs and i will give the BR hen two BM eggs. Have no idea what I'll do with more chicks but expect they'll be big enough to be cooped for the winter.

I will be moving some to the BR coop which could take a few more hens.

Hung a fan in the hoop coop to draw off the heat. Can't do much for the humidity though. Plans to do so in the Del coop too.

Heard a BM roo chick crowing today. I can tell their crow. Crazy things mature early. Combs have been red for weeks.

I expect I'll be leaving chickens for tips to the newspaper man, the mail man and the garbage men. Might even take one in to the barber when I go.

I've been leaving eggs.
What does A roo chick crowing SOUND LIKE ? Their Combs turn red when they mature too ?

Well took the family to martin's fantasy island today and watched the fire works at the end of the night. Was a good day but then it got better and I hope it keeps getting better! One of my chicks has broken part of the egg so I'm hoping tomorrow it gets out. I'm not sure if I should do anything if it aint out tomorrow or just leave it. I so want to help but at same time don't want to open the bator. I don't hear any piping from it but maybe it's just sleeping/resting. Even the wife who don't want chickens is excited about hatching now. I'm not saying anything to the kids until I see a chick out of the egg I know my son gets up set over every death of anything. Told him like 2 weeks ago some might not make it and he started crying. Well wish me luck.

My egg that pipped this morning didn't make much progress today. I took of the two small pieces tonight that it had broken just to help it out a little and it finally broke the white inner lining and has made another pip beside the white now. It's still peeping so I know it's still alive. I'm sure by tomorrow morning it will have made much more progress. My brothers GF and I were watching it tonight and she got so excited everytime she saw it's beak poke at the lining. It was so funny. She didn't even want to go to bed tonight because she was afraid she would miss something. Too funny....

I know how she feels this is such a high it's not funny. I think it's just cause it's my first time but I love this. I cant wait to buy some real hatching eggs that i'm going to keep in my flock. Started looking for affordable barred rock eggs that maybe I can breed to better lines later or just select breed mine into better birds once I get some. I want to get some first and see how they are but i'm leaning towards them as my main line I want to breed.

Breella I really like the looks of this big guy and am hoping he settles down if anything he seemed kinda sad tonight he is fine with me and the kids he just don’t like other roo I don’t mind keeping them separated as long as Bully Roo stays in his own territory.

Jlaw YAY! Now don’t let it drive you nuts I am on hatch number 3 and have been to the bator a million times today. I have so far gotten 2 Olive eggers and have more with holes and cracks in them along with some silkie eggs that have holes and cracks in them, the bator is chirping a lot out there.

Tomorrow have to go pick up cupcakes for the son’s graduation party and then am going to try to put some hens with the roo who is being a bully to my other roo and hope that some female company keeps him occupied as I really like the looks of him even my husband likes him and he normally only cares about what new thing I want built for them and that he has eggs for breakfast.

Thankfully today is Friday. Once I'm done with work and go get my sugar test I'm going to take a nap. My parents are taking the girls today. Yesterday my neighbor came for eggs at 7:30 and last night my mom called my cell at 7:26 (I use it as an alarm clock). Everyday this week I've been woke up after passing out. My feet looked liked sausages before bed too. I'm not liking this heat.

Hopefully tonight we can candle our eggs in the bator. See if the temp. issue is resolved. Everyone have a good day.

I am posting here and in incubating thread but I would respect any answers you can give me please.

Is it normal for a chick to be born with a little yolk still attached. This is day 18/19 sat is day 21 from what I think is one of the smallest eggs I had of the original 35 eggs. I didn't mess with it because I was afraid to introduce any germs since I'm guessing there will be an open wound type deal with yolk still out side some. Here is a pic . This chick hatched at 0212 7/5/2013. The wife even stayed up to watch it hatch so let me know if this is bad or good so I can break it to her as needed.

Some of the yolk has since broken away and its in a different carton part so i'm hoping it will be fine. It's chirping up a storm as of now.
