He needs to go back to Sue this week since he started crowing. I am not allowed to have roosters but no one was the wiser since he didnt crow,  I am going to miss him. My first Roo and he is so much fun to watch. I am going to miss him

Aw my young roo sounds like that right now! I love it!

I love the A frame cover you have with the red ondura roofing. Is that a a place for cover during the day?
I have some left over pieces from my old coop I would love to use in something like that.

Yup i used scrap lumber I had to make it. A dual hawk safe place

You uploaded a ton of videos ...are the basketball ones yours too ?
I enjoyed the I cant get comfortable coz I am in the wrong spot one

Ugh I didn't realize they ALL uploaded ........yes the basketball ones are mine as well :/

Last night found multiple piles of black/white feathers, one by the back deck and another 2-3 alongside the garage. Called the girls for treats and one of the Anconas are missing. Those are NOT easy birds to catch, very alert and fast. The Amish finally mowed our field yesterday, so I suspected one of their stupid dogs followed down and found a snack. No body or blood to be found anywhere, just feathers. But had no proof it was their dog.
Well, this morning as we are getting into the car to leave for work, hear a ruckus with the chickens. Walk out of the garage to have the EE hen go streaking past the garage with that danged Amish dog, a yellow Australian Shepard, chasing full speed after her. So glad it is Friday so I had my sneakers on, cause I went running after that dog screaming like a banshee. And all my husband could yell behind me was to be nice and not say anything mean to the Amish!

Well my lungs gave out halfway up the hill (a runner I am not), but got up there and let the woman know that came out of the barn that she either ties up the dog or kills it, because it killed one of my chickens yesterday and was after them again this morning.

Hubby pulls up in the car and tries to smooth things over. Ugh, sometimes I could just slap him. So now I am at work, exhausted and a sore throat from the busy work week and this morning's adventure. Hoping it is a quiet day today, Im ready for a nap.

OMG, so sorry you have to deal with all that! I'd be ticked!! I would have told her to tie it up or I'LL kill it the next time it comes around my chickens! UGH, that makes me so angry that people can't contain their dogs to their own yard. Sorry about your hen.

Morning Everyone,
Been doing a lot of looking around online at splash vs blue silkie chicks and I'm about 90% sure after all the pictures I've seen, out of the three chicks I'm holding onto, 1 is a splash and the other two are blues. The one I'm thinking is a splash has a lot of yellow in it's feathering along with the blue color where as the other two just one solid color - light blue and the other one is dark blue. Can't wait to see what these three look like when they're all feathered out.

You can't be "nice"

Sure you shouldn't have to be mean, but they need to know how their dog behaves and once they are warned, then they need to control their dog. Flat, simple; end of story.

And they replace the hen.

I have found when you "smooth" things over, the neighbors do it again. When they know animal control or a bullet will be on call for the next time, they take some measures to control their animals. And you can do without being mean - but you can't be nice. ;0

sorry you had such a rough start to the day !!! Good luck with them being good neighbors.

Just found a big nasty cicada on my tree out back! Funny my son found the molt of one earlier and I'm like, Wow, that looks like a cicada molt. I'm up at the coops now and I found the bug! Lol

that dog is a predator and should have been killed on the spot. Then the police , game warden and dog warden all should have been called. You should have filed charges against the owner and should be suing the owner for loss of livestock.
I don't care if it someones pet. That dog is an unleashed predator killing your livestock and that dog should be killed.

Great Save ! Sorry about the lost one
I am familiar with this scream..Ive used it on a fox also
It is good they heard both of you ...you balance each other out
I agree with you though ! Tie it up or kill it . It has tasted chicken it will be a problem now .

Stony - you are pretty handy with the gun ...The rest of us ...maybe not so much ..
When I hear a chicken in distress ..I dont think of the gun ..
I just think of getting to that chicken as soon as possible ..
Do contact police , game warden and dog warden to report it

Oh, Lapeerian, that is too bad. I hope they will understand and do the right thing, as it seems you have been quite a nice neighbor to them, giving them the makings for dinners...
