NY chicken lover!!!!

I rarely use the incubator. This year it has only been used to hatch eggs broody's had to leave to raise chicks. So 8 days ago I put 6 eggs in the bator. Had no idea how long they had been sat on. They were extra's under the broody. Laid late. With the hot temps I was having trouble not having the temp go crazy so I finally just left it at 95 degree's. I never turned them. This afternoon 3 of the 6 hatched.

My point. People fret way too much over incubating. Eggs are amazing. Doesn't take much to hatch them.
Funny you say this, after all the research I did on hatching eggs - temp, humidity, when to turn, when to candle when not to candle - I just came to the conclusion that I'm going to do things my own way - I'll candle when I want to candle, if an egg needs help on day 20 after it pipped but nothing has happened in 24hrs, I'll open it up and help it out. I've read so much that it's not as crucial as some people make it out to be.

I also missed this some how, but..........

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FEATHERZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey thanks TOB! We ended up at the teddy bear factory and the shelburne museum. Had a great time! :)

How does one go from having too many eggs to no eggs at all! Oh wait! Broody hens! Thats how! UGH No more broodies, I threw my son's hen out of the nest box every time I caught her in there. She's finally out free ranging again. Stella is done, the splash silkie is done, and I'm not getting eggs. I have 6 hens (one still a pullet at 15 wks old) and not a single egg in these nestboxes. I got two silkie hens to hatch eggs hoping to get the colors I wanted, was able to get 5 eggs hatched which is great, but now no one is laying. I want more silkie eggs to hatch!

Pyxis - a member here - had an egg from my pet ... she had it over 2 weeks - really not paying it any attention at all and not paying attention to the temp or anything! .... when my pet died - she put it in with the next batch of eggs .... even so - so had some temperature "event" with her bater and the egg still hatched !!!!!

And I have my little miracle .... Arucuna x Welsummer

He's looking great! So my silkies have had a few bumps in the road hatching, but I've got three so far, one blue, one splash, and ones that's either really dark blue or black. My older chicks escaped the brooder and pulled the plug on my incubator, sigh, but it was only for a few hours so I'm hoping the six remaining eggs still hatch. We'll see.

Here they come! Beggars they are! Looking for treats, snacks or whatever else I have...Well I have nothing! Give me some eggs! Then you'll be rewarded! LOL

hahahaha! Too funny, Lynzi. Well, I know you're not laughing, but you made me laugh! Your hens and ducks (despite being slack-offs) are adorable! And to think I actually want my oldest bird, the Marans, to HOLD OFF laying until late summer. I'm so afraid she'll start laying while I'm gone on a long weekend and get an egg-eating bad habit going either in herself or the others.
